Sorry to hear this, RIP. I saw him a couple of times with Elvin, one occasion at Carnegie Hall. A fine player.

He was a bit frail getting to the piano last time I saw him but that was nearly 10years ago now. The fact that he is still playing is cause for celebration - Happy Birthday Mr Tyner sir and hopefully lots more gigs !

I wonder how things would stand legally with regards to publishing these in a book? Not sure who owns the rights to Esquire either after Peter Newbrook’s passing. The Calman print was with permission for a one-off very limited run from his daughter. If that was repeated across the whole catalogue it could be quite the exercise, to say the least. Those Guidis, or many of them, are in a OOP Glyn Callingham book on the West Coast labels.

Wonder how that Moondog disk managed to be within the Brummy trad sleeve? Always admired that ‘Miles’ artwork and never realised it was the work of renowned cartoonist Mel Calman. The Moondog is by Diz Disley. Cartoonist Ralph Steadman also did some of the covers e.g ‘Gil Evans Plus 10’.
