  1. Good, thoughtful session. It is included in that Reece 4CD set on Acrobat.
  2. My antidote to the Eurovision Song Contest..
  3. Thanks - still showing as backordered on the site so I guess that no longer holds. Great !
  4. Condon/Freeman CD1. They have done the usual great job on the sound and some lovely music here.
  5. International Phonograph
  6. The Rosemary Clooney set is pretty nice. Some of the organ backing is a bit twee but her singing is very enjoyable and classy and the Mosaic set did it's job for me by highlighting a substantial talent that I wasn't really aware of. No doubt I will pick up the Bing, if/when it comes back.
  7. Another from me. Will order when back in stock. JPJ pressure group 1 : Market Indifference 0
  8. Sure to sell out quick. I'm going to bag a spare..
  9. Just run a comparison between LP 1 track 2 'Blow Mr Dexter' from the Arista 2LP set and the same track on the Moaic set. There's no question that the sound of Dexter comes across in the Mosaic as more in focus and with a 'bigger' sound. Noticed though that there was what sounded to be a very short duration drop off on the Mosaic just before the piano solo - tape deterioration perhaps? All in all though I prefer the sound of the Mosaic, although the Lps are no slouch.
  10. Not to forget also that the CD mastering technology has improved quite a bit since those earlier sets came out - although they still sound pretty good to my ears. Plus you are paying for 20-30 years of condition depreciation, in many cases.
  11. Amancio D'Silva 'Integration' (Pheon). FIrst, limited vinyl reissue of this one from the master tapes, authorised by the D'Silva estate. First impressions - Fantastic reissue, very quiet vinyl and superb sonics. Blasts the Impressed CD into outer orbit..
  12. I remember that Ella Memorex ad on TV !
  13. I've been listening to both sets and so far, the view is positive. Don't have other CD sources to compare with but the sound is pretty clear, considering this is 70 year old music (gasp) and it is great to have it all compiled in archival sets. I think they did a pretty good job ! (stands back awaiting flame-out response..). The music, of course, on both sets - is historic.
  14. No complaints so far, nice clear sound - having said that, I haven't tried comparing against the Arista 2LP sets (which I will probably do for the Dexter stuff). I like the booklet with this one - with the excellent introductory essay on Teddy Reig. What a mark that guy made on the world of music ! Too bad there weren't any Savoy session photos but I guess Mr Lubinsky didn't believe in all that..
  15. Savoy Bebop Set CD1 on rotation here. Dexter doing his best to lift the roof !
  16. Oh wow - I used to see him on occasions in a local jazz CD outlet. Based on his conversations with the store owner, he knew his stuff ! The thing was, I didn't know who he was at the time. If I had done, I would have tried out some of my best 'Franglais' Remember keeping that CBBB cover in a brown paper bag/well under wraps, back in the day !
  17. UK Verve vinyl. Definite CBBB sound to this LP, excellently recorded by Adrian Kerridge.
  18. Streaming is all very well - until the provider ups sticks and pulls the plug..
  19. Derek Jewell? Charles Fox?
  20. Just about to crack that box open this morning, as I work through the pile !
  21. Remember seeing him live with one of Humphrey Lyttelton's final bands. Fine player, especially on clarinet.
  22. Well - I for one will say (and as a big user of cassettes) that I never for one moment considered them a valid substitute for LPs. They were convenient - for use in the car or walkman or at work - and that is all.
