  1. Yeah - I think you might be right there. Lots of estate sales. The hipster/snowflake lot don't seem interested in them though, too busy buying original Blue Notes !
  2. I used to record from vinyl and FM radio onto TDK metal tape with a JVC noise reduction thing called 'Super - ANRS' I think. The results were fairly good - but nothing near reel-to-reel.
  3. Maybe there is a correlation between the current price of OOP Mosaics and the value against major currencies of the $US? For us Europeans they have remained fairly steady in most cases. An indication of just how clapped out the US dollar used to be !
  4. Art - I hear you. 10 years ago the shipping to Europe was a lot less, customs fees were often waivered and the £ bought not far off $2. How times change..
  5. and I remember some very impressive circular breathing demonstrations from Coleman at those performances. I shared one table with some very young UK saxophonists who were in awe at the demonstration - subsequently with Loose Tubes. Don't forget 'The Pentagon' !
  6. Fascinating - I remember seeing that 'See Autumn' LP in the racks. According to discogs that one was put out on a label called Picadilly - but maybe that was part of the Trip bootleg 'family'?
  7. The 'Prez Conference' LP was quite a popular jazz release over here in the UK when it first came out and I recall it did get reasonable airtime. I think it was a revisited 'Pres Conference' that I caught live back in the 1990s.
  8. Just a guess - at around the time I caught Eastern Rebellion wih Berg on tenor, I also caught two deparate tour appearances by Coleman both with his Quartet (with Hilton Ruiz) and the Octet. So I guess he was fully occupied touring with his own projects !
  9. Same here - sign of a Mosaic fanatic
  10. I'd be all over that Serge Chaloff if I didn't already have it !
  11. Sorry to hear that - enjoyed hearing his band perform and rehearse at an event back in the 1990s which I think had tenor Jack Montrose also in the lineup. Not too many of those 'names' from the golden period of West Coast Jazz still with us, sadly.
  12. Just had a message back from Scott in which he mentioned that there was the 'possibility' of the JPJ set coming back by the years end - if all goes well. Caveat emptor all round but - fingers crossed ! Another thumbs up for the Mosaic Gazette too !
  13. Well done - saw that one a few weeks ago too. Was tempted but the shipping and taxes would have made it prohibitive.
  14. They dropped down to one catalogue per year back in the late 2000s.
  15. Great that the videos via that link are working - last time I checked the Don Ellis collection it threw me off after about 5 minutes for all of the audio and video archive material. Last night I was able to play in full that 1968 San Fran Museum of Art show. Wonderfull ! Good to see Illinois J. in his pomp with John Lewis and co. in the Monterey show. Will check out the rest of it today.
  16. When I bought this set just as it was going through 'Last Chance' some kind soul on the BNBB suggested I should opt for the vinyl version of the set in place of the CD version. I owe that person a beer !
  17. No 'fusion-confusion' on that one !
  18. I think there's scope for a 'Bring Back James P.' pressure group
  19. Good to hear that a re-press of the Armstrong Decca and Goodman are likely, by the sounds of it.
  20. Curtis Fuller 'Fire and Filigree'. From Mosaic's 'The Complete Beehive Sessions'
