  1. It'll be Grachan Moncur III 'Evolution' surfboards next..
  2. I think there was a recent gig at Smalls with both Eddie Diehl and Joel Fass participating. Presumably it is available for listening for Smalls subscribers. RIP - always liked his work on 'Thinking of Home'.
  3. The Bird Curtis Quintet LP is certainly no lost masterpiece but is a fine, very enjoyable session - especially so as these guys were semi-pro I believe. Ian Bird on tenor and alto, in particular, plays very nicely and should be better known. A cohesive and well put together session which any fan of, say, Rendell-Carr is sure to enjoy. The reissue package is also exemplary - considering the reasonable price. End of sales pitch.
  4. The all-time greatest Direct-To-Disk recording, IMO..
  5. Didn't the MJQ set only just become available again? Here and gone in a jiff..
  6. 'Bird Curtis Quintet' (Jazzaggression, mono). Finnish reissue of a very rare UK album from 1968, reputedly in better sound. The vinyl comes with a CD and download (the vinyl has the definite edge in sound quality). Along with the Amancio d'Silva, my reissue of the year so far !
  7. They still keep sending me emails (with 20% off sales, which still work out very expensive).
  8. There's one chapter which covers the first sextet and not a lot in there about 'Speak' and 'The Prisoner'. The main focus of the book is on the Mwandishi years. I still have to fully read this book, it has sat too long on my shelves without being perused !
  9. Those two must be joined at the hip !
  10. Kool and the Gang at Glastonbury 2011 with Michael Ray (tr) and the late Clifford Adams (tb)
  11. How about a UK 'Progressive Jazz' feature, 1967-72? Graham Collier, Mike Westbrook, Michael Garrick, Ian Carr John Surman etc. Plus features on the Rendell//Carr Quintet and Neil Ardley/New Jazz Orchestra
  12. Still have that one and enjoy giving it the occasional spin. Bought in Liverpool as a cut out back in the late 1970s. The story I heard is that shipments of those were loaded into freighters in NYC as ballast for offloading up there.
  13. From the Herbie box.
  14. Yeah, I agree. I think it was 1995 that I saw them. The sextet lineup with Steve Davis.
  15. Harry Barris Barry Harris Wee Willie Harris
  16. Nice to see a few more of the sets in stock. Once the James P. comes back in I'll likely go for that one and the Armstrong Decca. No doubt will snag the future Teddy Wilson in due course. Roll on Mosaic !
  17. Great memories of seeing this band at various North American locations around this timeframe.
  18. Monk Mosaic Vogue/Black Lion set. CD1 - the 'Swing' session.
