  1. Just been listening to an interesting BBC archive interview with Eddie Henderson. Eddie mentioned practicing duets with Morgan - not only did Morgan sit extremely close, touching distance but also subtly adjusted his playing on the fly to the notes and tones of Eddie's playing. As mentioned, not something that would ever be taught at any school and an insight into Morgan's artistry.
  2. Amazing selection of 'flair' that he was wearing. That watch chain from Bird made me laugh too.
  3. Never realised she was half-English with her mum from Bolton !
  4. Ha - blame my keyboard for that ! In any event - just put in an order for the James P. and also the Mulligan Emarcy LPs before they become MIA.
  5. Hard to know what to make of all this. On the one hand the Benedetti set is being phased out and 'bluenotesound' is putting all those sets on ebay. On the other hand there is the encouraging statement on the Teddy Wilson and those backorder sets being repressed. Very mixed messages.
  6. Yes, time for another read through Tom's book. The story about 'Take Twelve' is in there I think.
  7. Priceless !
  8. That 'Late Lee Morgan' record heard on the radio was 'Take Twelve' on Jazzland I think.
  9. Just picked up one of those nice mint Buck Clayton sets from Mr Cuscuna. I have an LP version but this set is just so great that a digital version for frequent play is justified. Fantastic 30th St Studio sound !
  10. No. No doubt UK/European Amazon streaming and Netflix will get it eventually. I'll wait.
  11. Buck Clayton CBS Jam Sessions, LP4
  12. Me three ! Talking of Dave O'Higgins - saw him a few weeks ago in Darius Brubeck's group. Very impressive !
  13. Not so much that as having to do the expedition to get in to London to see it.
  14. Dizzy Gillespie 'Bahiana' (2LPs) and 'Dizzy Gillespie y Machito', both on Pablo. Followed by Cedar Walton's 'Mobius' on French RCA. Major misfire. Apparently, it had a single..
  15. I caught him recently at Swanage with his usual pairing with Alan Barnes plus Art Themen. Took quite a few photos of that (historic) appearance. He was in his usual fine form.
  16. I'm bursting a blood vessel to see this one - doesn't look as if Amazon UK or Netflix UK are yet offering it.
  17. I was listening to the Dizzy Reece session earlier today and was noticing some similarities stylistically with his Tempo sessions back in the UK in the 1950s. For sure, an individual vision and this is quite searching music. A lot of unease in it as well - at least to my ears. I have quite a number of the sessions on Beehive LPs but even so, great to have the box.
  18. Lennie Hambro on varitone !
  19. Always liked that one. Must dig it out (if I can find it).
  20. Short but very sweet..
