  1. All The Best !
  2. South Coast morphed into Hermosa Beach today John?
  3. King pressing presumably? - that's a good one.
  4. Roger Moore as 'lively' brings to mind this classic.. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=spitting+image+roger+moore&rlz=1C9BKJA_enAU612AU612&oq=spitting+image+roger+moore&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l2.9084j0j7&hl=en-GB&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8
  5. Tessie O'Shea Mrs Mills Queenie Watts (showing my age..)
  6. Saw him as James Bond on the TV just this weekend. He was a damn good Bond and a good guy from what I gather. 'Just keeping the British end up'. RIP One of my earliest TV memories.
  7. So sorry to hear this - one of my favourites, stalwart of many 'Liberty' era Blue Note sessions and that fine band with Dizzy Gillespie. Not sure I ever got to see him - although actually saw his name outside Ronnie Scotts no longer than 4 or 5 years ago, not sure who he was touring with. Sadly, I couldn't check out that gig. Extremely versatile, tasteful and foot tappingly good drummer. RIP. "Damn good". Yes - exactly.
  8. Azimuth adjustment checks - sounding sublime !
  9. I find that a bit of inward pressure applied by finger nails on the tabs first of all, followed by a bit of rotating the disk side by side, helps with removing the Disk 2s. Just had the same issue with the Savoy set. Ludicrous !
  10. Cool ! His signatures are a real work of art too. Not to be missed !
  11. He was sat literally right behind me at the Horace Tapscott tribute concert about 20 years go - with what looked to be his family. Fortunate enough to see him at the London Jazz Fest some years later (around 2007 in fact) conducting a mainly UK big band. Incredible energy and enthusiasm ! Also saw him at the Playboy Fest with his LA orchestra and that was phenomenal, one of the greatest big bands I have ever seen/heard.
  12. Aha - I know where you mean. On one of my last visits there that rack had a Thad and Mel vinyl set on display, for about £130 I think. Already had it so I passed. You are right that that long rack had the entire Kenton 'Creative Word' catalogue in it and loads of Duke and Basie, I recall. As well as ancient dust by the barrow-load !
  13. I have the Benedetti set on vinyl - will try to give it a spin during the weekend, in between Savoy and Dial set sampling. Was that set hiding upstairs in the dust pile over by the books? Probably around where I spotted that 'Jazz Scene' asthmatics' nightmare..
  14. That CD is now fetching silly prices. Glad you share my view of this reissue - my second copy arrived too. Now I can wear the first one out and rest easy !
