  1. Sadly, they mentioned tonight that next year's Swanage event is likely to be the last. Some problem with the rights to the venue location and having to find an alternative I think. Ironic, as the quality of the music today was superb and as good as I've ever witnessed there.. Your fave Robert Fowler was on good form tonight Bill, with Mr Barnes and co.
  2. More at Swanage today - Mark Nightingale, Tim Garland, Stan Sultzmann and later on a JATP tribute/knees up and Keith Nichols' excellent Blue Devils orchestra with their 'Harlem Nights'.
  3. Not sure - have the vast majority of them, might be just one or two that I'm missing. Will plan on doing an inventory check. In the space of a week I saw two copies for sale of that Peterson/deFranco. The first one was pretty beat up so I passed.
  4. Up with this thread again. Just picked up the Buddy deFranco/Oscar Petersson. Very nice !
  5. Thanks. Kofi-Barnes' first set was great, starting off with Barnes' 'Peverill Point', dedicated to the local landmark. Caught Ian Shaw's last set and also a real hoot of a show by the Budapest Ragtime Orchestra (!). The average age in the 'trad' marquee looked to be less than that of the 'modernist' marquee () ! Some good stuff to come tomorrow. Sadly, Bobby Wellins had to cancel due to illness - Stan Sultzmann is depping for him.
  6. The Kofi-Barnes Aggregation and Ian Shaw at Swanage.

    Vocalion

I like that Bennie Maupin Vocalion !
  8. Fats Sadi 'Ensadinado' (Saba, stereo)
  9. Wish I'd kept the old copy of Melody Maker. Shame they never put the archive on line for public access as per the original plan..
  10. El Gato Cat Anderson Mrs Slocombe
  11. I was tempted to say 'only in London'. Maybe they have factored Brexit into the price..
  12. I see those pressings on occasion and they always look a bit on the 'budget' side - I guess they must have been mid-price on issue?
  13. Wooden decks are always a real problem when it comes to vermin hiding underneath them. I remember that raccoon infestation problem in Toronto very well. The whole of the metro area seemed to have it.
  14. Spent today in London so was able to check out Rays Jazz, Fopp etc. From Rays I picked Gerald Wilson's 'Legacy' for half price and the Verve 2CD 'More Than Mambo' in the 'Take 2' series from the 90s, which eluded me until now. Fopp delivered the Blakey 'Jazz Messengers' Impulse for £3 . Some of the prices in Rays were optimistic. £300 for a s/h Miles Plugged Nickel CD set !
  15. Grachan Moncur 'Evolution' (BN NY USA, mono, ear) Jackie McLean 'Capuchin Swing' (BN 47W63rd DG mono, ear) Gil Evans 'Great Jazz Standards' (King Pacific Jazz, mono)
  16. Piers Plowman Piers Morgan Chesty Morgan
  17. Dameron/Coltrane 'Mating Call' (Prestige 50th St, DG mono). Brilliant !
  18. I remember reading a Melody Maker live gig review back when this tour took place. They played a week or two at Ronnie Scotts and at some stage Cook and Shaw nearly came to blows on the stage. Never heard the full story but that was the end of the band I believe.
  19. I remember when this came out and it getting very good reviews at the time. To this day I've never read it - a situation I will have to put right.
  20. Happy Birthday Late (I'm late..) !
  21. Happy Birthday Mr Priester. I will give the 'Polarization' vinyl a spin tonight in recognition.
