  1. Nice one. That LP set will be next on deck for me after I've finished working through the Sarah Vaughan Roulette CD set.

Don't you guys get home delivery?
  3. Shhhhh !! I'm still trying to catch up with my ever lengthening Mosaic backlist This thread is coming across all Dusty Groove..
  4. I have a copy of that Hank Jones solo Savoy on a UK London LP from the 1950s. Time to dig it out..
  5. Mine sounds fine - nothing noticeable in the quiet parts. Didn't cost that much either. My copy of 'We'll Talk About It Later' is pretty quiet too. Maybe all the good copies were held back from export ! (or perhaps some of those pressings might have been affected by the first oil crisis circa 1972/73). Chitinous Ensemble 'Chitinous' (Deram, stereo) Mike Westbrook 'Release' (Deram, stereo)
  6. I have that Julian Dash as well. The only other sessions I've heard him on are on the Buck Clayton Mosaic.
  7. 'The Complete Jimmy Raney In Paris' (Japanese Vogue/King 2LP). Very fine reissue.
  8. Moses Znaimer Rob Ford Ed Mirvish
  9. Yeah - good enough for me.. This morning - selections from Mosaic's Complete Commodore Vol 2. The big pitfall of this series is that by the time you've spun Vols 1 to 3 your new cartridge needs changing..
  10. Hank Mobley Complete 50s Blue Note Mosaic LP set.
  11. Scandinavian style units quite popular over here late 60s early 70s. Remember one of these churning out MJQ and Wardell Gray..
  12. Eric Kloss 'Consiousness' (Prestige purple/silver, stereo)
  13. Very true - those things would survive a nuclear strike !
  14. 'Smokin' With The Chet Baker Quintet' (SABA, stereo). Broke the bank back in the day at.... £4. These Richard Carpenter sessions really cook. Great work as always by George Coleman.
  15. Big Mama Thornton Big Daddy Giant Haystacks
  16. Will be checking this one out today - Channel 4 documentary, 'Ollie Reed meets Sadaam' !
  17. I was there for that one. The BBC recorded and broadcast it - have a CD of that broadcast somewhere.
  18. Not a deck to play rare Blue Note originals on...
  19. Wow - end of an era event for sure. Don't think I ever saw him in person at any UK events but his recorded voice often featured on intros at the London festivals (e.g. Capitol).
  20. Strangely, I don't think I've had any major issues with warped records for maybe 30 years, none that I can recall anyway. Maybe my deck arm is tolerant of them? - certainly I do recall issues in the late 70s in particular with those thin pressings that sometimes had to be returned to the shop. Labels that I recall having regular problems with include Cadet Argo reissues, US Columbia red label and Inner City. Here in the UK - DJM. Those Blue Note reissue series LPs could be iffy too, come to think of it.
  21. Thinking back, just recalled that it was upstairs in that area by the stairs near the second hand book shelf, one of a cluster of generally grubby 78rpm items in a cardboard box. It would have needed one heck of a clean and even then it set me off on an immediate sneezing fit. I remember thinking at the time that it was a shame it wasnt the CD version (which I've since got ). Probably late 1990s...
  22. I remember coming across a copy of this 78rpm folio at Mole Jazz back in the day - it was pretty dusty and far from pristine so in the interest of not sneezing every time I handled it (and not having 78rpm playback) I passed. It wasn't expensive either - maybe £10-15 ish.
  23. Sorry to read this. Glad I was able to catch a solo piano recital by Claude Williamson at an open air event about 20 years ago though. It was a very impressive performance. RIP and thanks for that. Interesting the comment above about him being a bit overlooked. The performance I saw was a bit low-key but there was no doubting the quality of the playing.
