  1. John Coltrane 'Impressions' (Impulse red/black stereo)
  2. Whenever I see a radiator I think of 'Eraserhead'..
  3. 'The Gil Evans Orchestra Plays The Music of Jimi Hendrix' (UK RCA). Bought by me when it came out and still mint. Great to hear it again !
  4. also from Bill - Don Cherry 'Complete Communion' (BN NY USA, stereo)
  5. Horace Silver 'Silver's Blue' (Epic yellow label mono, reissue sleeve)
  6. I need to dig both of those out and give them a spin ! One more from BillF - Blakey 'A Night at Birdland Vol 2' (Lexington/47W63rd DG mono) Once again, very good sonics.
  7. That looks like Rita Tushingham's face on the cover of 'A Taste...'
  8. BBC Radio 4 broadcast this programme about Miles' 1980s foray into visual art today. Worth catching.. Blue Canvas
  9. Tony - Let us know what you think of this one after you have given it a spin. Its on my list along with the Beehive set.
  10. JohnS mentioned that he was there on the night !
  11. More from BillF.. 'Coltrane' (Impulse orange/black mono). Lovely - absolutely trounces my UK 70s reissue.
  12. I've still got, like, 300 of those..
  13. Amazing man, amazing music. Happy Birthday !
  14. I spun a few recently and they sounded fine ! Back in the day they were like 'mana from heaven'.
  15. Sounds like you had a fun ferret around there Clifford - I don't know any of those but an interesting list, for sure..
  16. I think it was 1979 or 80 I saw them at a London gig. Menza and Shew were still in the lineup. Arnie Lawrence added on saxes. Blue Mitchell had passed not too long before and they did a tribute number to him (I have the feeling it was called 'Blue' - featuring Bobby Shew).
  17. I guess you are just paying for the room space and that the walls, land rent (% thereof) and contribution to maintenance/upkeep plus backhanders etc are all in the $1k per month. Would be cool living there though !
  18. Service charges pretty astronomical for a 1-bedder. Or maybe that is typical of NYC?
  19. Fascinating to compare that prototype run of 'Stolen Moments' on Trane Whistle with the one on Blues & The Abstract Truth.
  20. Sad news - 60s trailblazer on jazz flute, for sure. RIP.
  21. Tony - Welcome to the board, I share your enthusiasm for all things Mosaic. As you mention, the shipping of these sets to the UK isn't the easiest, although I find Mosaic's shipping straight-forward and reliable. Prepare for import tax and the dreaded Royal Mail 'admin' charge on delivery though. For in-print sets, consider ordering from jazzmessengers in Spain. I think their shipping within the EU is free as well (at least whilst we are still a member of that Institution..). The Mulligan Emarcy on vinyl is on my list. I have the Japanese LPs but these were from a digital source I think. I suspect Mosaics mastering on this set will be superior to the Japanese sources. In fact they did such a fantastic job in the Brown/Roach and RRK sets that It should be a no-brainer.
  22. Karin Krog 'Raindrops, Raindrops' (Crippled Dick Hot Wax ) Mulgrew Miller 'The Countdown' (Landmark)
  23. Michael Garrick 'Silhouette' (Gearbox) - recorded by Mr Garrick whilst still a UCL student using personal rig, late 50s, at an old stomping ground, ULU Malet Street. Sleeve notes most interesting. During my time the music rehearsal room was, I think, this one on the 3rd floor. The Garrick bio mentions 2nd floor though.
