  1. I had been hoping to hell all day that we would not hear this news. RIP, a considerable loss to jazz.
  2. Isoardi's 'The Dark Tree' mentions it as having been recorded late 1987 on return from Germany. Hence side A track 2 'Bavarian Mist', I guess. 'Quagmire Manor' was apparently Sessions' nickname for the second of the UGMAA houses, apparently.
  3. Once that sucker impregnates itself in your brain it will never let go..
  4. This set sounds as though it will be an absolute 'blinder' - thanks for the update ! I suspect that this one will be in the grand Mosaic tradition of Commodore, Master Jazz Piano etc.
  5. I think I saw that Woody Herman Band and had not realised that Bob Belden was in the lineup. My wishes for him and hoping for the best. What tragic news.
  6. Never even heard of it !
  7. RIP and many thanks Mr Lundvall for a great legacy of stewardship at CBS and Blue Note. So much great music nurtured and released thanks to him. A very sad day for jazz, for sure. Wasn't there a thread a short while ago about an auction of his art collection?
  8. I would have gone for it !
  9. To me - looks a dead ringer for Hercule Poirot !
  10. The Tanglewood performance on that one is really nice, if you don't already have it.
  11. Jane Getz George Braith RR Kirk
  12. 80s/90s Blue Note sort of hit a peak with this one and the Bobby Watson Horizons, in my opinion...
  13. 16rpm - would mean that you can play those hen's teeth "Captain Slow" Prestiges e.g. Miles Davis '& the Modern Jazz Giants'.
  14. Excellent record. With some excellent Kenny Wheeler. True - I was probably even more impressed with Thomas Heberer's solo work on this album. Wheeler's 'Ana' is featured on side 1 of course.
  15. Not over here - they just seem to add extra tax April/May. Roll on retirement... .
  16. Thanks for that - I'll probably pass then.
  17. Ha - compulsory flamin' hi-vis jacket ! I've been on the fence about that Bill Birch book. Would you say it is a 'must have'?
  18. I'll be giving that one another spin today, along with the RRK and Sun Ship. Now spinning Wynton Kelly/Paul Chambers Vee Jay CD1. The Paul Chambers 'Go' session.
  19. Great set - this is one of those that disappeared literally overnight as a result of that imfamous manufacturing balls-up by Capitol. Recommended !
  20. Worth a spin under a record cleaning machine, if available. I reckon lots of copies might have pressing detrius on them - one of the tracks on mine clicked until I ran it under the machine, even though visually it was flawless. Here's hoping that Dutton Vocalion put out a few more of the Lansdownes on vinyl. The Guy Warrens would be nice ! Not sure I would totally agree with you on 'Integration' ( ) but I agree it's also a really, really nice session that is well worthy of reissue on vinyl by Vocalion (and another CD issue would be good). The fact that 'Hum Dono' has Harriott on it gives it that 'historic/landmark' edge, I guess.
  21. Just heard this and sorry to hear it, RIP. He had a good long life though and a timeless legacy.
  22. I was there in Late Nov/early Dec last year and my recollections were that it was blustery and quite changeable. When the weather was good the beaches in and around Aukland were very pleasant. At least one half decent vinyl shop downtown too..
