  1. Great news about the Stan Tracey book by Clark. Will have my pre-order in for Simon S's book as well. With a film/documentary on the way for Tubby, great year for Tubb-ophiles.
  2. Ian Carr's 'Music Outside' is an essential primer for British jazz of the 1970s and Alan Robertson's Joe Harriott biography is also outstanding.
  3. Happy belated birthday !

Definitely - he often gets overlooked but those Mercury and 77 Label LPs are up there with Tubby Hayes' output of that era, IMO. Particularly 'Storm Warning', a live session cut with Phil Seamen.
  7. Don't remind me about flamin' Intoxica again !
  8. Happy Birthday John !
  9. Enjoyed the show but shame that Courtney P. didn't interview Don Rendell for reminiscences. I've heard that Don had a long chat with Coltrane after that Gaumont Kilburn 1961 gig. Can't believe that that cinema is now a church ! Used to pass it regularly on the bus up and down the Edgware Road.

  17. I think he was in an LA big band lineup I saw of Dizzy Gillespie alumni back in the late 1990s.
  18. Swivell Eyed Loon Sir Christopher Wren Norman Fowler
  19. Clark Terry/Bob Brookmeyer 'Tonight' (UK Fontana, mono) UK issue of the Mainstream LP - and good to be reminded of just what a fine band this was.
  20. Moana Lot Sinclair Lott Lottie Lenya
  21. How was it? - I thought George had retired from doing gigs.
  22. Jack Bruce was also on double bass on Mike Taylor's 'Trio' recording for Dennis Preston/Lansdowne and also part of the lineup for NJO 'Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe', both landmark recordings. Incredible that this was around the time that Cream were at their zenith. That's the one.. I have back copies of that publication and remember reading that furour - will dig them out.
  23. Desmond Dekker Israel Crosby Lynton Crosby
  24. Finally - at long last - got my set. Great mastering by Mark Wilder, very nice. First out of the box and it's 'Perfect Machine' from 1988 with Bill Laswell and.... It's great ! maybe I should be shot?
