    Hum Dono

Realistically, unlikely to source a good vinyl original for 1000 Cdn these days - maybe £ perhaps.. Great that they have managed to source the master tape, if that is indeed the source. Very odd though that this hasn't happened before, taking into account the historical significance of this session. The story has always been that the master tapes couldn't be found in the Universal vaults - maybe Adrian Kerridge had a copy?
  2. I saw Pullen/Adams at the club and seem to recall possibly seeing a younger Ken Clarke with cigar smoke generator in the club around that time so it could well have been at that engagement. Around 1983. Ronnie Scott used to do an announcement to confirm that Joe Henderson was appearing at the club the following week, although it was then confirmed to be Joe 'Piano' Henderson. One of his classics !

  6. Recently saw a good vinyl copy of the 'Angle' in a store in Melbourne. Should have gone for it..
  7. Wasn't that one of those where the master tape was lost?
  8. Happy Birthday, Paul !

    Hum Dono

Original 'Hum Dono' LP was in stereo. Not sure if there was also a mono issue (doubtful in view of the date). Knowing Vocalion, they are sure to do a fantastic job with this reissue.
  10. Ooh - yeah, I gotta make a trek to Vancouver to hang with you guys. I'll be rolling into Van in December if anyone is interested in a get-together ! Would love to meet up. DM me when you are in town. Will do. Hopefully we could do a 'group meet'.

At last ! Great that Vocalion will be doing the CD issue, if that is the case. They did wonders with 'Movement/High Spirits'.

  13. Lots of good Thad Jones solo features on the Thad/Mel Mosaic. Any fan of Thad will be sure to appreciate this excellent set. Other good ones which come to mind as Thad Jones sideman sessions - 'Speak Like A Child' with Herbie H. and 'Another Story' with Stanley Turrentine.
  14. Happy Birthday Porcy !
  15. Very cool to see them using the 'Straight No Filter' photo of Hank !
  16. I caught Lew T's quartet in Fullerton, CA back in the late 90s. Great evening, highly recommended if you get the chance to see him. Consummate all-round musician.
  17. Belated Happy Birthday Patrick. Enjoy the Cables !
  18. Have a good one !

    Goodbye Acker

' Blue Acker' always seems to be easy to find in 2nd hand vinyl shops for about £5 a pop. My favourite of his albums. Sad news. Always a great ambassador for Somerset and for British trad jazz in general. RIP.
  20. Even with a good copy of the vinyl I'll be springing for a CD copy of this. Great news !
  21. Hope all is well Brownie - very Happy Birthday to you !
  22. Hope it was a great one - Happy Birthday !
