    Very interesting !
  4. Quick Bath-area update - sadly I've just noticed that Broad Street Jazz, which took over from Music Matters and which relocated to the Classical CD store across the street, finally closed for business at Xmas. Very sad news as always a fine selection in there, very knowledgable owners and some great music picked up from there over the years and fine afternoons spent scanning the racks. So - Duck, Son and Pinker and Broad St/Music Matters both now gone. Fopp only in Bristol. The revamped HMV now have the town to themselves..

Curious to hear what sort of job Dutton Vocalion have done on this, needle drop or not. The shops are shut today alas so it will have to be off to the CD emprorium tomorrow..
  6. Always nice when that happens.. Up in Van I even managed to sneak a peak in Zulu Records over in Kitsilano. Other than a fairly beat-up Andrew Hill 'Grass Roots' and loads of good-nick Charles Lloyd Atlantics - zilch.
  7. $100 for a 47W63rd Blue Train, first pressing or not, is a great find ! Now why did come out of Vancouver empty handed?
  8. Happy New Year and good listening !
  9. Fair enough ! First vinyl play of the year - Joe Harriott 'Movement' (UK Columbia mono). A different listening experience to the fine Dutton Vocalion stereo CD. Bass more prominent. Love the way that side 1 finishes of with the neo-calypso 'Revival'. Perfect !

  11. This one has been entertaining. 'Only in Toronto..'
  12. Followed by another Aussie World Record Club originally issued on UK Columbia - Laurie Johnson 'Synthesis'

  14. You were lucky - when I came back through the other day on the 'other' passport they wanted to give me a 6 month visa !
  15. Neil Ardley 'Greek Variations' (Australian World Record Club). Never knew this obscure variant existed until I saw a copy. Sonics are pretty well comparable, I think, to the UK Columbia version. Ian Carr's tone, in particular, comes through very nicely.

  20. Something between rain/sleet/snow coming down here. In the family we call this "Glossop weather" as we would go the few miles to that higher place to find snow for sledging when my daughters were little. Trouble was the younger one would ask to go to Glossop in May or June as if the winter wonderland was permanent there. No snow or sleet down here. Very windy and wet though - and cold. This transition from Summer to Winter for me will be a challenge..
  21. Sorry to hear this - RIP. I have CDs for several of his 50s Verve albums stacked up ready to play. A great album.
  22. Thanks for the information on the Touchcopy software. Will give it a go, have been looking for something to rebuild my iTunes library for a while.
  23. Ian Carr and Nucleus+ 'Labyrinth' (UK Vertigo spaceship label). Another nice Antipodean find.
  24. Really enjoyed the visits there years ago - in particular the Lawren Harris's. Nice location too..
