  1. Initial reaction says: 'Filles De Kilimanjaro' 'Africa Brass' 'Maiden Voyage' (subject to change..)
  2. Wow - I've seen so many negative reviews of this but when I see this appear in Larry's list my curiosity to hear it increases enormously. If ever a session attracted diverse opinions it is this one !
  3. Sonny Sonny Rollins Henry Rollins
  4. 'Potty Time' Michael Bentine Spike Milligan Neddy Seagoon
  5. Mines now on its way, glad to say. Along with a Zeitlin, Handy, George Wein, Herman Columbia and a few of the vinyls.. Big order!!! Yeah - in mid-Atlantic transit as we speak and hopefully here for Easter. The vinyls by the way are the RR Kirk, Brown/Roach, Ella/Duke and the Monk 'It Club'. It was about time I put in another order with Mosaic and the 10% off on the vinyl covered the mail. I had high expectations for this one and it has already surpassed them.
  6. Louis Armstrong All Stars Decca Studio - CD1. My latest Mosaic..
  7. The one in 'Clockwork Orange' was the best - it had the black-swirl poster advertising the Vertigo label on the wall !
  8. Gepetto Jonah Jiminy Cricket
  9. Bean LL Bean Mr Bean
  10. Sonny Liston Sonny Bono Bono
  11. Louis Armstrong Complete Decca Studio Recordings (6CD) on Mosaic. Picked up at Ray's Jazz in London They also had a copy of Yusef Lateef 'Before Dawn' on Verve Elite but the second time I looked it was already gone..
  12. Looks like some more examples of George W Bush's 'art'..
  13. Thank goodness..
  14. Any links? Here's at least part of this programme. I suspect that it will be rep[eated on BBC4 sometime over the next year or two.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVy_OzvmlJ8
  15. British or Linn? Have the Scots voted to separate already? May I throw Dual's good old Teutonic technology (i.e built like a brick out-house) into the mix? My first 'real' deck was a Dual 604 and it gave many years of strerling service until I bought my first Linn deck (an Axis).
  16. There was a European tour and probably some stateside gigs in 2012. Early in 2013 it was announced on his website that all performances through June of that year were cancelled. A later announcement cancelled dates after that. No word since. The last London performance got excellent reviews, sold out well in advance of course and the BBC did a fine documentary with concert footage around that time.
  17. Late congrats !
  18. Happy Birthday Evan !!
  19. Love that 'Drastically reduced to 49p' sticker ! Yes, I guess copies can't have been flying off the shelf........ Would you buy an LP with a p*ssed off hairy Scotsman in kilt and not much else on the cover?
  20. I remember buying a vinyl copy of 'Spirit Sensitive' just before the Marsalis/Freeman 'Fathers and Sons' and link both of these with the start of the 'young lions' jazz resurgence of the early 1980s. Donald Fagen's 'The Nightfly' came out around the same time and seemed to tap into this general vibe. Within a year or so of that the French Pathe Marconi Blue Notes started coming out en masse and the 1970s UK jazz drought was officially over.
  21. Chris Evert Jimmy Connors 'Stompin Tom' Connors
  22. Having seen their NYC store about 10 years ago, I agree. Same thing can be said of Tower, I guess.. Those guys had every single Free America title in the racks and most of the Blue Note Conns and Verve Elites. Not to mention not 1 but 2 of the giant 'Gitanes Jazz In Paris' boxes behind the counter. Jazz candy store.
