  1. I've had CD3 on repeat play for 3 whole days and now into the 4th - a record for me. Outstanding, for sure. One big highlight for me has been Steve Grossman's work on tenor and soprano.
  2. Helen Merrill 'Mixes' (UK Mainstream, 2LP). Early Bob Shad bop sessions on LP1 and a Merrill session on LP2.
  3. In for a treat! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0xzTTlX_a4 Yep, always worth seeing and one of the best bands for sure in this country. Wonder if he will bring his bagpipes for the Somerset audience?
  4. The return of the record shops beckons....
  5. Can never understand why those idiotic pound stores are proliferating in this country. People end up paying more for stuff that they can get way cheaper elsewhere. A total con, exploiting people's pricing/value ignorance. Also just reported is that the venerable, long-established Acorn Records in Yeovil is about to close this Summer. That place has been selling recordings since about 1973 and has always kept at least a small jazz selection. Sad news.
  6. Big JC The Pope The Bish
  7. Tomorrow night - Gilad Atzmon Orient House Ensemble
  8. He He ! That London Jazz Collector site is good value !
  9. I see more LP copies of 'Black Marigolds' coming up than 'October Woman' on Argo. None of the Garrick Argos sold more than around 1500 copies I believe and most were well under 1000 (with 'Heart Is A Lotus' the biggest seller).
  10. I've got stuff that goes back to about 1972 ! Even some BBC Radio jazz broadcasts from that vintage - will have to dig them out.
  11. Joe Wilder Clark Terry Marvin Stamm
  12. Yep - I've encountered this with Philips C-60s and C-90s. TDKs weren't so bad.
  13. Also recommended as a lead-in... Some of the 'Black Messiah' tracks are on this one
  14. Scorchio Fabio Sven
  15. I guess 3 or 4LP sets are the norm now with Mosaic vinyl. No doubt the economic risk is too great with the big sets.
  16. Got so many of these door stops that I can hardly get through the front door.
  17. Cher Henry Kissinger Tricky Dicky
  18. Just announced - on CD and Audiphile Vinyl, with complementary 24bit download.
  19. Don Was Don Revie Don Corleone
  20. "Great" record. A real favorite. John Jack (Cadillac Records) produced it, rather than Alan Bates, so it's unconnected to the whole grip of mid-60s sessions (which I assume Bates just leased to Fontana). Alan Bates seemed to have fairly close links with Polydor/Polygram during the 1970s so I guess the Fontana connection preceded that, as part of the 'Philips' link. Only a matter of time before the Japanese/Andorrans latch onto this one I suspect.
  21. Have a good one !
  22. This one and the other UK Columbia Don Shinn would be nice..
