  1. Cannonball Adderley 'Cannonball and Eight Giants' (Milestone/Musidisk 2LP)
  2. Elvin Jones 'Genesis' (Music Matters 2x45rpm) Wow ! Perfectly good as the sound of the Mosaic set is, this is in another league. The definitive issue of 'Genesis'.
  3. Long John Silver Rupert Murdoch Rebecca Brookes
  4. Sir Roy Dobson Frank Dobson Jim Dobson Jr
  5. Willie Makeit Willie Maiden Iron Maiden
  6. I'm sure I saw the Brew Moore for sale in Fopp a while ago at £3 but I guess it will have gone from there now. Worth checking your local Fopp Bill !
  7. I'm in this for the music and the music on this one is transcendent. I have both the Taylor CD's but of the two, Pendulum is clearly the keeper. Of course the fact that he died at such a young age and left such a tiny recorded legacy has to make these outings all the more valuable. I find it hard to choose between the two Mike Taylor albums, although 'Trio' has the edge I think (personal view). Both are astonishingly good - just imagine what he could have gone on to achieve if he had kept his mind.
  8. 'Metronome Presents Jazz In The Garden' (Japanese Warwick, mono) Teddy Charles with Mal Waldron, Booker Ervin and Booker Little. Great one ! That LP gets lots of play here.
  9. Thought Paul P's place was extremely orderly compared with the 'rat house' that dominated the show. Strewth !
  10. It would be a 'yes' from me. I wish they would go back to replicating on vinyl some of the CD-only sets as they did in the past - although the realist in me says that isn't going to happen, with the business environment as it is. I haven't got any of the recent LP sets such as the Monk, Ella or Getz, so these are on my list.
  11. Big fan here of his playing on Lee Morgan's 'Sonic Boom' - although quite a few don't seem to like this session. This particular Fathead compilation of the Atlantic stuff provides a good overview:
  12. Woody Herman Herman and His Hermits Herman Munster
  13. Ditto ! I bought a few things from him when he manned the desk at 'Ray's'. This programme could probably have been a shoe-in for the late Ed Dipple of Mole Jazz, with his jazz LP collection stored in a lock-up garage. Jazz LP collecting and London housing don't mix !
  14. Arnie Sidebottom Bottom Chris Botti
  15. Genius Genie Jean Genie
  16. Looks like the sort of crazy itinery Spinal Tap might have done ! Best of luck to them with the tour - they have had some good press over here of late.
  17. Yeah, what's $1300 for a Blue Note these days? Bargain !
  18. If you like that one, check out his latest ! Kenny's writing got better and better.

    Vocalion

Not the new batch but picked up a copy of the Vocalion Don Rendell "Jazz Six/Tenorama" today, courtesy of the good people in Germany at Bear Family. Another one that has eluded me for far too long ! Incidentally, if anyone needs the NJO 'Western Reunion' the Vocalion site is showing that one now as pretty well sold out. Ditto the 'Will Power'. Both of those should return to circulation circa 2050.
  20. Duke Humphrey Duke Ellington Duke Pearson
  21. Various Artists - 'Jazz Explosion' (UK Columbia Lansdowne Series, stereo) Good stuff for 16 shillings !
  22. The Brothers Mael The Candy Brothers John Candy
  23. It's threads like this that remind me I should log in every five minutes... Congrats, sidewinder! Thanks - eagerly anticipating the mail here . That one has eluded me for years !
