I remember Dorsey from this band.
Mystic Merlin? Now there's a blast from the past. Quite a difference in style, to say the least.
Very enjoyable film ! And interesting to see the way the operated in the RCA studio at the time. Thanks for posting.
If it's the one I think it is, this was a documentary commisioned by the BBC and broadcast on BBC4 a few years ago.
It's pretty good - segments on Mingus, Miles, Ornette and Brubeck. No great revelations but very enjoyable.
I'd assumed you'd have been onto the Cohn, Bill. Worth listening to - not my centre of gravity but interesting and very enjoyable music.
Only caught a bit of the Cohn but those great tracks from the Newman/Cohn/Green Mosaic Select have propelled that particular Mosaic to the top of my pending list.
Head too full of the Royal Wedding?
Can't say there was anything on the roster this year that said to me 'must see' and the thought of the long car treck to and from Cheltenham was not an attractive proposition this weekend I'm afraid.
Glad it went well - I'd completely forgotten that Cheltenham was on over the weekend !
Myra Melford - yes, a very accomplished pianist/composer with a strong Muhal Richard Abrams influence. Caught her several years ago in Bradford-on-Avon. That was with a mixed UK/US group too. Did she get her harmonium out?
