  1. I remember being present in the house when they recorded Louis Bellson Explosion. Might have been there when George Coleman's Quartet was recorded too ! (was there that particular week). Quite a few of those Ronnie Scott recordings came out on the Pye label over here (including the Bellson and Coleman).
  2. Yes, with Miles Davis's ex, Frances, as the greeter. Had a fine little conversation with her last time. Cool ! When I watch these clips I expect to see a big Tower Records sign appear on the right with a wooden shack drawing the jazz punters in like a black hole and a couple of free car parks to make things easy. Wrong era and now long gone I guess but nevertheless - alas !
  3. ( I have that LP !) Morgan Freeman Freeman, Hardy & Willis Fluff Freeman
  4. Another spin for Complete Capitol 50s Four Freshmen, CD3 I'll put on that Johnny Smith set today too. That one also needs dusting !
  5. I have that very LP (the Gramophone magazine review copy) in my collection. Still near mint !
  6. “Apparently there was always some confusion regarding the course, and students had difficulty in picking up books from the required reading list, although one listing, The Source Book of Man’s Life and Death (i.e, The Bible, ‘King James’), whose author was listed as ‘God,’ was available from ‘numerous’ publishers.” Love it !
  7. Sorry to hear this. Didn't he also record with Miles? ('Red China Blues' I think)
  8. A recent BBC4 Dankworth Tribute documentary had home cine film of them all getting off the TWA aircraft in NYC. The same view shown on the front of that LP. A very young Kenny Wheeler amongst them ! That Roulette LP must be the US issue of the Top Rank UK LP. Maybe someone checked out this site?
  9. So - you went for it then ! Sound good?
  10. Huff Hoff Hassellhof
  11. That is one form of quantitative easing that would actually work !
  12. Great one ! Love that sleeve.
  13. The ones recorded with Stan kenton's Orchestra and also the 'Five Saxes'(Dave Pell, Bud Shank, Bob Cooper etc.) are well worth getting too ! So far on my 'de-dusting' of the Mosaic set the sound quality is much more than OK, although I've not got the 'Five Trombones' session yet. Some great Milt Bernhart solos on these sessions.
  14. HRpita wishes lots of fun Now up to CD3 and enjoying it. Maybe I'll finally crack all 10CDs today?
  15. Complete Capitol Four Freshman box, CD1 10-year scheduled de-dusting...
  16. Nice find ! I've never seen it (though maybe it never crossed over the Atlantic when it came out).
  17. He ! No sure what to specifically recommend Ubu - the album with the trombones is a good one. I knosw that my Mosaic 'Frosh' gathers dust and I really should play it more than I do. It's actually pretty good !
  18. Now working my way through the Charles Tolliver Mosaic Select. Very enjoyable !
  19. Shocking, very sad news. A great ambassador for Spain, will be missed.
  20. No respect around here for the Frosh..
  21. Great stuff. Nice to see the Bullwinkle statue in situ outside the Jay Ward Studio (suprisingly small). Isn't that 'Hamburger Hamlet' place still in operation?
  22. The Charles Tolliver Mosaic Select is a really good showcase for Cowell. That one is going on deck right now !
  23. Was this one recorded at the Town Hall in Cheltenham? I ask that as they did a few several years ago (caught the Dave Liebman and the Henry Grimes recordings).
  24. Good wishes from here too !
