  13. Never seen The Unthanks ! (although they did do the Bath Fest this year). Saw Gilad earlier this year at Swanage. Absolutely no politics that I could detect - lots of cutting contests though with various front lines. He was on very good form indeed. I think I've talked myself into going to this gig.

  21. RIP Buddy. What a shame - I heard him reminisce about the Central Avenue scene of the 40s on one occasion at a panel session. Certainly came across as a very nice guy. Must have a re-read of his bio.
  22. No kidding ! Rare and superb.
  23. Sounds like this is one LP for which you need to substitute the Patton Mosaic ! Fortuitously, it's the only Patton Blue Note that I've never had on the vinyl.
  24. Some interesting recollections there - and for sure we all seem to have been born at about the right time. My mother was in the industrial NE coast during the blitz and she regularly used the air raid shelters at night. Her recollections mentioned lots of noise and frantic activity around the anti-air guns near the shelter, which were protecting the docks. My late Uncle had apparently was in hospital at the start of the Battle of Britain having his tonsils out and aparently mentioned (and anything he said I would believe 100% without hesitation) that whilst in bed recovering he heard an aircraft 'dog fight' outside the hospital which he subsequently concluded (based on the timing) must have been the first German aircraft shot down in WW2, near Danby Beacon, by Group Capt Peter Townsend of 'Princess Margaret' fame. Incredible ! Story here (under 'Heritage'): First Dog Fight
  25. Wish I'd recorded that. I know White Waltham airfield near Maidenhead quite well and spent some time working some years ago at the old aircraft plant at Hamble ! (used to be the Supermarine plant) I like the bit about the woman pilot who went partying every night without fail in the West End after an exhausting day of 'ferrying'. She sounds formidable.
