  1. Blue Mitchell 'Out Of The Blue' (Riverside reel/mike DG, mono)
  2. I have the Blue Note LP in mono, mint copy, so - no A CD copy would be nice though !
  3. Fascinating. Sounds totally 100% Hank to me, from the off. I would agree that it is very similar to his style of playing in 'Breakthrough' - but the chops are sadly in lesser shape. As mentioned, he's got the ideas for sure but struggling to get them out. This is a aspect of Hank's recordings that for me really started to become apparent with the 'Thinking Of Home' session onwards. I remember the NorthSea Fest back in 1984/85 actually advertised in the jazz press a forthcoming appearance by Hank - but sadly it never happened. I'll have a look at back copies of Jazz Journal from that era to see if I can find the advert, if I get some free time.
  4. The return of Summer over here this weekend. 22-23C and clear skies forecast. :rsmile:
  5. The Complete Dick Morrissey Quartet 1960s Studio Sessions !
  6. In the past for LPs I've always ordered direct 'from the horse's mouth' in Italy via the Rearward/Schema website and stuff has arrived fine. Must pick up this 'Encore' - at first I thought it was just a reissue of the Blue Note 'Golden Eight' but I see it is new material.
  7. Thanks for the advisory. I was thinking of going for the 2LP set of this so will probably now opt for the CD.
  8. Happy Birthday MG ! Good listening..
  9. Happy Birthday !
  10. Thanks for the tip - just bought it. Have been looking for this gem for a long while. Always kicked myself for not buying it 'back in the day'.
  11. Hey, welcome back Soulstation !
  12. Saw them several times back in the 1980s. Once at the Bath Fest in 1988 I think - the BBC televised it and I used to have a copy (with me visible on the film) but it was wiped by mistake . The second time was a free performance that they did in Nathan Philips Square in Toronto back in 1989, part of the Toronto Jazz Fest of that year. Never a massive fan but their performances were fun ! Indeed - I'd forgotten about that so that makes it 3 times. Senility setting in !
  13. "This may well be the finest known condition copy in the world" Interesting !
  14. The late Amancio D'Silva did originally come from Goa I believe, before he emigrated to the UK. Agreed. They are fantastic - and I now want me a copy of 'Storm Warning' (without causing a run on the £)
  15. Vespasian Nero Claudius
  16. Gerald Wilson Orchestra 'The Golden Sword' (Pacific Jazz, stereo)
  17. Polly Peachum Peaches Geldof Blair Peach Vicar of St Albions Rev Paisley Pope Benedict
  18. Polly Filler Polly Toynbee Arnold Toynbee
  19. Really been diggin' this disk today. There are some real obscurities on there. 'Quincicasm' with fine Dick Pearce on trumpet - released by Saydisc and apparently less than 200 copies on LP. Never even heard of that one - and fine it is too. And acording to Tony H's notes one of the main protagonists subsequently had a 1970s pop hit with The Flying Lizards and 'Money'. Who would-have known it? . Ringer of the collection for me (in addition to the A-1 grade Wheeler and Dick Morrissey) must be that Johnny Hawksworth/Hampton Hawes from 'Anglo American Jazz Phase 1' on Music deWolfe and featuring the superb Peter King. Awesome ! (now where on Earth do I find a copy of that one? )
  20. I don't think you're allowed to provide links here but if you visit the aforementioned Orgy in Rhythm site you will find that the full Impressed 3 set has been contributed by Tony Higgins. A fantastic contribution and one that shows that blogland can sometimes make up for the deficiencies of the labels. Wow - thanks for the tip. I've not heard any material from Colin Bates 'Brew' before and quite a few of the tracks are new to me. A great compilation - and I notice that Tony H. has put together 16 pages of his customary infomative and 100% value-added sleeve notes. I'm going to bind them in covers . Fabulous and stupendous !
  21. Macavitty Tweedledum Tweedledee
  22. John DeLorean Marty McFly McFly
