The Onzy Matthews is a nice listen. I've listened to that one quite a bit recently. The earliest Select that I have with the 'pictorial' spine and top is Andrew Hill Solo, Mosaic Select No. 23. Not sure if any of the earler ones had this change also. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed it. Now spinning Dizzy Reece Select, CD 3 (the 'Comin' On' session with Turrentine). Very nice sound on the whole of the Carmel Jones set (it arrived this weekend). To be followed with Woody Herman Select, CD1.

Yikes ! I know the ladies usually don't shave their armpits in MPS-land but.... Me wants a copy of that one.

Yeah, its a pain having to continuously adjust volume as you switch channels. The UK commercial channels are really bad in that respect. Great though for BBC4 music documentaries !

Amen ! Ive had this box since 1996 and its been worth every cent. Last time I was in the Lighthouse, also on a Sunday for brunch, I was thinking the same thing - the wooden stage must be original although its in a different location within the room I think (I recognised the acoustic properties).

Yes, the CD version is a hard listen - very harsh. A bit of an over-prominent bass too.

I really like Woody but this recording doesn't do too much for me (not listened to it for years) It's definitely chaotic - but I like it. Much prefer it on vinyl than to CD too. Got to speak briefly years ago with Contemporary producer John Koenig about this session - it was apparently arranged/recorded at very short notice with lack of preparation (which shows at times) and there was a fair bit of 'intoxication'. For me, it makes an interesting contrast with Miles' 'Bitches Brew' from around the same era.

Well, the "horses mouth" himself says in the film that the future emphasis will be more on the streaming devices. I wonder if the likes of Naim follow suite? (in fact I guess Naim are already heading up this route with the 'Uniti')
