  1. Now that's a rarity (and a very good album, too!) I'm afraid I only have an audio tape of a friend's copy. It's on the Mosaic Dizzy Gillespie Verve box. I still have my French Verve LP! Yeah, one more good reason to get the Gillespie Mosaic set. I have that session too on a HMV mono LP from the 50s.
  2. Never known anything like the UK this November/December. It hasn't let up one bit. It was good to get away to Toulouse for a week with clear skies, warmer conditions, no rain and an extra hour or so of light. Getting back here was like returning to Mordor ! And yet after last night's storm it's a beautiful morning out there at the moment. And my pond is at least full and the newts are OK..
  3. 'Wing Nut' Rooney 'Bend It Like' Beckham 'Cry Baby' Gazza
  4. Batman Christian Bale Dave Bailey Please explain the connection between 'Sir' Geoff and the Caped Crusader Both born in Yorkshire?
  5. The availability of 'Where Is Brooklyn' as a Conn has probably dented the value of that set (on CD - I'm sure the vinyl is still strongly in demand). Great set to have, nevertheless !
  6. John Coltrane 'Giant Steps' (UK London DG mono). Magnificent !
  7. One for Flurin !
  8. No excuse this time. Only 3 teams of formation dustbins would be easier.. That's not very nice. Are you saying we can't play football worth a darn . I need an 'irony, said in jest' smiley..
  9. Not strictly jazz but Eric Woolfson, best known as the driving force behind the Alan Parsons Project, has just passed. RIP.
  10. No. 1 in the Jazz Journal UK Jazz Best Seller chart for many weeks in the late 1970s. I think Spyro-Gyra 'Morning Dance' was No. 2 !!
  11. No excuse this time. Only 3 teams of formation dustbins would be easier.. for the US that is
  12. David Bowie Spider From Mars Hunky Dory
  13. For sure, one of the best - and very much missed. I'll add also Vic Lewis - stalwart UK impressario for West Coast Jazz. and Gerry Niewood in that Bufallo plane crash.
  14. Zola Sarkozy Thierry Henry
  15. Typical Applause - even the print quality is blurred. They must have run out of brown print dye for that one though . Those things are so bad that one day they'll probably become mega-collectables.
  16. Sort of Oliver Twist-like?
  17. I think I've seen a Jimmy Smith 'Plain Talk' in this style too.
  18. It's not raining over there like it is here is it?
  19. Maybe in the US, but here in London, HMV Oxford Circus has piles of them in the jazz department. Didn't avert my gaze but there were quite a few of these in the basement jazz section at £175. The Miles 'Kind of Blue' extravaganza box in the sale at £45 was a better deal. Not to mention quite a few ECMs, Dutton Vocalions etc. at £5 each !
  20. Sadly, no sign of any stray Dizzy Reece Selects in London today.
  21. My shipment has been stuck in customs for bloody weeks now. So I wouldn't even know if I got the right one. Seems like they have two people working there to battle the Christmas rush. That would be twelve thousand packages per person per day. [Edit: And two forms, two letters and five phone calls per package.] That's Germany for you. Those two guys are covering the UK and France too.. Hope it comes through OK - I'll keep a look-out in London today just in case you need a set.
  22. That was a Liberty era re-pressing with different sleeve art. I've got a couple of them - there was one of the Bennie Green's in this style too, plus the original of Grant Green 'Carryin' On'.
  23. Good man ! Wish I could get into the classical stuff myself - however just keeping up with jazz is a full time occupation.
  24. Crusty Bart Liza
  25. Gone off of jazz, porcy?
