  3. Yeah - another ZanuLabour innovation. Some of these jerks have competitions to see how many they can get !
  4. They are renowned for it in Newcastle
  5. I think this news definitely merits another box set. And a t-shirt !

  8. Much faster - great work, worth the wait !
  9. Says 'Made In The EU' on the bottom of mine - and obviously a Sony France project. I have to say that the sound on some of these CDs is making me re-appraise some of the 80s Miles material. Case in point - 'The Man With The Horn'. The original LP (which I have) has a disappointing sound, very veiled and compromised top end. On this CD, the top end in particular comes through with much more clarity and Al Foster's sound can be heard to great advantage. More like the sound on the original LPs of 'We Want Miles'. Looks more like a scuba demand valve first stage !
  10. Looks like I've got some glue residue on some of the disks - nothing serious, should be easy to sort out. All disks also seem to be 'present and correct'. The original vinyl sleeve notes on the 'Directions' and 'Circle In The Round' also seem to be quite readable, which I find amazing considering the size of the case.
  11. Twisted by the Dark Side, young Sidewinder has become. Meditate on this I will. Please accept my apology for transgressing, o wise one vinyl-master..
  12. Great album ! Very under-rated..
  13. Run, don't walk.. :rsmile:
  14. Just wading into the box, having collected it today. I must admit that the quality is better than expected visually, no complaints here for just over £2 per CD - and the booklet at least has a precis of each of the albums (it's a small hard-bound book, in both French and English). No sign of any glue issues so far - touch wood. Maybe that was a problem with the Amazon batch? Just listening to 'Dark Magus' (aka No. 43 ) - sounds to my ears to be a definite improvement on the US issue (never heard the Japanese CD issue). Better top end and more presence. I always like it when CBS France put out these 'Miles specials'. Brings back fond memories of the 1973 3LP + 45 rpm single set 'The Essential Miles Davis', put out by Henri Renaud. The one with the velveteen box cover. PS - there's also a flyer in the box mentioning a 'limited edition trumpet case' offering in 2010 with details at www.geniusofmilesdavis.com. Is that the one that will be populated with metallic spine sets?
  15. Prince Lasha Ensemble 'Insight' (UK CBS, stereo)
  16. Must be Xmas if 'Insight' by Prince Lasha is finally coming out on CD. Certainly one of Lasha's best - I guess the UK CBS LP was the only vinyl issue? Will dig it out..
  17. I've had my eye on the Johnny Smith too. Can anyone tell me: is it closer to the Joe Pass or Tal Farlow set? I really dig the Pass, not so much the Farlow. I would say that the style is closer to the Tal, not as funky as Pass. If you don't like Tal though don't let that put you off. There's some lovely playing on the Johnny Smith set.
  18. I'm pretty well there too. Otherwise it will be extra racking in the garage !
  19. Just listening to one CD which surpasses any version I've heard on vinyl - Don Ellis 'Electric Bath' on CBS/Sony. They did wonders with this one. As per clunky, I don't bother with on-line downloads either (other than boots from 't'other site')..
  20. Very simple for me - preference for (original, if possible) vinyl for the listening pleasure and CDs for the I-Pod and convenience factor. Having said that, I've been listening to more CDs of late. Good to mix and match !
  21. Damn - I think I saw that mag in one of the shop racks on my visit recently but did not see the CD, otherwise I would have bought one. Too busy looking at the beauties on the next shelf.. Very impressed with the fact that jazz mags are readily accessible in French shops, even very modest outlets. Over here it's 'Jazzwise' only, if you are lucky..
  22. Trilby? Wiki Trilby
  23. I've got a copy of the box put aside for collection at one of my local stores. I've taken jazzbo's comments on board and the Milesaholic in me says 'me wants' I'm afraid.. :blush2:
