  1. Heard a track from this the other day in the HMV shop (a remake of 'Everywhere', I think) and it sounded stunning. This one is going to be a must-buy for me.
  2. Have the Chapter Three Vol2 on Vertigo 'swirl' LP. Damn good !
  3. Wow - that sounds obscure !
  4. Clunky Bunky Green Uncle Funky Uncle Nastie Filthy McNasty Ile Nastasie
  5. Yes, superb presentation. I think I picked my copies up in that shop in Birmingham that specialised in big band jazz but can't recall what they were called. That would be 1977/78 ish. The 'Live In Munich' LP I picked up many years later (along with both Sonny Fortunes, The Thad/Mel Quartet, Jim Hall 'Live', Haden and a couple of others I can't quite recall at this moment..)
  6. For shame! Yeah, my Tempo EP should be confiscated for that transgression ! :blush2: you do have my address, don't you? There's a UK export ban on it (although maybe we could do an exchange deal for a wagon full of Toblerone or Lindt Milka)
  7. I think the Marching Song Vols 1 and 2 preceded Love Songs but will have to check. The latter is a pared-down Concert Band with some electric instrumentation added.
  8. The Williamsburg footage the BBC used was originally on one of the Rhapsody Films releases, I think. Last time I was in NYC I walked across the bridge and think I located the spot where he plonked his tenor case down.
  9. Reese Witherspoon Jimmy Witherspoon Dick Morrissey
  10. Just checked my Deram vinyl Vol 1: 'Hooray !' - Dave Holdsworth (tpt), Mike Osborne (as), Bill Price (crowd sounds) 'Landscape' - Bernie Living (flute), Harry Miller/Barre Phillips (bass duet), John Surman/Mike Osborne (sax duet) 'Waltz (For Joanna)' - John Surman (soprano) Hope this helps ! One of Mike W's best, for sure. And a good one to spin on Armistice Day.
  11. Thanks ! SP 727 ('The Golden Number') is the highest one I've got. Don't recall ever seeing any of those titles from 728 onwards in the jazz racks over here (maybe they were filed on the top shelf in plain brown paper bags ).
  12. Bought that one on CD back in 1990 and agree it is excellent. The 3 Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra releases are: 'Suite For Pops' 'New Life (dedicated to Max Gordon)' 'Live In Munich'
  13. I remember that they caused a bit of a stir when the first batch was released in the UK (bought the first 2 Jones/Lewis LPs). Fold out sleeves with lots of session data and even transcripts of some of the music and the Left-To-Right stereo spread by musician on a chart. Very impressive at the time !
  14. Basil The Rat Manuel Manuel and his Music of the Mountains
  15. CD playback has come a long way over the past 10 years and I'm enjoying CDs more and more but there's no doubt - there's an extra dimension to the sound when you spin the vinyl on a decent deck setup.
  16. I'm pretty sure that this show has been on before - hope to record it. It turns out Clint Eastwood was a regular patron !
  17. For shame! Yeah, my Tempo EP should be confiscated for that transgression ! :blush2:
  18. Only just become aware of this one - two parter hosted by Jamie Cullum. Worth a listen ! Ronnie Scotts At 50
  19. Sweeney Todd John Thaw Dennis 'written the theme tune, sing the theme tune' Waterman
  20. The worldwide vaults are truly being opened !
  21. Always liked his recordings with JJJ and Kai Winding. Sad news - RIP.
  22. Nice move SS1 - I think you will enjoy it. This one is growing on me.
  23. Just placed an order for the Reece - I thought I already had it, but apparently not. I was getting it confused with the Carmell Jones !
  24. The soundof this album is very 1960s Euro-MOR, TTK - I think it would be just up your street. Even has a nice retro cover of Euro female sophisticate sipping champagne on a couch (I hesitate to say 'loveseat'). :rsmile: I don't think it's been issued on CD.
  25. Hope the pain eases soon. All the best !
