  7. I think I remember reading that Francis Wolf was seriously considering signing up Ponder for a Blue Note album deal in the late 60s, however it never came to pass thanks to his untimely passing.
  8. The 'Jump' recording for Muse is very enjoyable - and nice that BJP is on there too. Appalling cover art though !
  9. Lots of repeat listening to 'The Fantastic Frank Strozier' session on the Chambers/Kelly set recently. Essential Booker Little - and the alternate takes are no problem for me. Indeed, they are a bonus (any additional Booker Little solo on disk is to be welcomed !)
  10. Tucker Carlson (sorry...) Tuck (of Tuck & Patti) Minnesota Fats Minnie The Minx Korky The Cat Biffo The Bear
  11. I have the very same pressing (as well as the session also on the Mosaic LPs). Will dig out !

  13. I know what it's like being under the weather there. About 4 years back I arrived recovering from a nasty attack of shingles. I still found it hard to move or touch my back against a chair back. I recall sitting in the upstairs seats in the Town Hall (seats in the Town Hall!!!) watching Jazz Jamaica doing their Motown programme and feeling very uncomfortable. Nasty. Just listening to Dunmall doing his Talisker-ish bagpipe thing on the Radio 3 broadcast. Would have enjoyed it at mid-day but not sure about hearing it at mid-night with a streaming head..
  14. I think I passed one in the racks for a few £ a while ago - and passed on it (thinking it was just a compilation)
  15. Stanley Cowell 'Blues For The Viet Cong' (UK Polydor, stereo)
  16. Harry Gold Long John Silver Metal Mickey
  17. Yes, that's the one. I recall that Chris Laurence was on bass and Martin France I think on drums.
  18. Joe Harriott/John Mayer 'Indo Jazz Fusions II' (UK Columbia Lansdowne series, mono)
  19. Yeah, that's a really nice session.
  20. Yep, the second one was a trio/quaret/quintet date, recorded in NYC on January 12, 1962. It was released as Hush! Personnel: Donald Byrd - trumpet Johnny Coles - trumpet Duke Pearson - piano Bob Cranshaw - bass Walter Perkins - drums Tunes: Hush! Child's Play Angel Eyes (trio) Smoothie Sudel Friday's Child (Byrd out) Out of This World (trio) This track was only issued on a European Polydor LP (423224) and was included on the CD reissue: Groovin' for Nat The CD reissue added alternate takes of these tracks: Hush! Child's Play Sudel There was a 60s UK LP issue of this called 'Child's Play' with a picture of Byrd on the front. I have a copy in the racks somewhere. 'Groovy' released in the UK also as a Fontana LP with this cover art.
  21. Happy Birthday, Yves ! Treat yourself to a Mosaic or some LP12 upgrade bits, perhaps?
  22. Unfortunately, a heavy cold somewhat curtailed my enjoyment of the weekend but I did get to see the Martino/Arguelles and Profound Sound Concerts, plus the 'Jazz Library' recordings. Sorry to miss the Live 'Jazz On Three' - I had intended to catch it but could barely keep the old eyes open by 10.30pm therefore road safety took priority. I will certainly check out the radio broadcast though. Apparently, part of the Henry Grimes interview may not be broadcast (due to interference from someone's mobile phone). I believe that it affected a couple of tracks. A shame also that the Liebman Big Band gig was also cancelled due to the brown-outs at the Everyman - I had a ticket for that one. However, such is life. The Martino film and concert made it for me (I even bought the DVD), although I also really enjoyed John Abercrombie later on the same night (does he ever do a bad gig? - his show with Mark Feldman at Cheltenham a few years ago was also really good) and the interview and concert with Henry Grimes. A1 stuff, as usual.
  23. Brains Parker Tin-Tin
  24. The JazzLine cover art looks the same as that on the original Polydor LP.
  25. Inspired by king ubu - Chambers/Kelly VeeJay - CD1
