There's about 5-10 minutes of footage from the Monterey concert. One of the numbers has a Glenn Ferris trombone solo and the other track is a Patti Allen vocal feature I think.

First time it's ever happened on this amp. A combination of a warm day and cranking Grant and Yusef up to 12 o'clock I guess..

That one should blow your speakers apart ! Yep! I had to put Ahmad Jamal's At The Blackhawk on after it, in order to calm my wife down. I spoke too soon. 'Grantstand' just caused my NAP 250 to overheat and cut out. The top of the amp was pretty damn hot ! Re: 'New Fantasy' - It must be a 'woman thing' - total hatred of big band music and fortissimo trumpets. Yet to meet one who likes it. That 'New Fantasy' is a great listen though, especially cranked up.

Sorry to hear this - first heard him on LP with Supersax and saw him in person with the Gerald Wilson Orchestra. RIP.

German Columbia? Never seen that one before ! And no doubt very rare. -
Yeah, hope all is OK. Sounds like it might be asthma. Great to hear that George is back in action !

An essential item - but nice to have it on the Amy Select on CD too. Saw a Fontana LP of this one quite recently. Now spinning:- Joe Harriott 'Free Form' (UK Jazzland Interdisk orig, mono) Porcy, Sidewinder, Teasing the Korean,....maybe you know that.. Wow, thanks!! Thanks too ! (already have the whole thing on an official British VHS). Some good things on that 'Frankly Jazz' series - including the Jazz Crusaders.

Lots Of Power Surges Lately

Sounds like it could be a building problem - or someone in the locality powering up a rogue piece of kit putting transients into the supply e.g. a big capacitive load intermittently kicking in. -
I saw them there too. Must have been either 1982 or 1983. Dannie Richmond was on drums and Cameron Brown on bass I think. Around the same time I also saw Mingus Dynasty with Pullen and Richmond, plus Johnny Coles on trumpet/flugel, Aladar Pege on bass. Not sure if it was Adams on tenor (probably was). I always thought that Ken Clarke looked sort of familiar so quite likely I saw him in the audience at Ronnie's polluting the air with his cigars

Mike Westbrook - Glad Day at Wavendon UK
sidewinder replied to Chris_T's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Thanks for the advisory. Sounds fabulous - just a shame that Wavendon is so far away from me. Hope to catch at least one of Mike and Kate's (+ the Village Band's) Summer West Country performances though. -
Have a good one !

This incident has most definitely shaken me up. Was just starting to read an investigative book about the 1974 Turkish Airlines DC-10 airline crash over France (Orly) on the very night this happened. Current best theory is blockage of a pitot tube leading possibly to confused air data, incorrect speed setting for altitude/level of turbulence, automatic disengagement of autopilot and reversion to 'manual' flight with progressive breakup due to speed/turbulence (possibly severe overspeed leading to nose down attitude?). Original lightning strike theories possibly contributory but unlikely to be the main cause. With the tail section found, it is now more likely that they will locate the FDR and CVR.

Maybe not though - never heard of any Crown pressings giving extended pleasure.

Had the same thing myself about a year/year-and-a-half ago on the LH side. Total agony, I couldn't put any weight on the left arm or shoulder. It took about 3-4 months to clear up. For the first few months I kept waking up half-way through the night, every night, in intense pain. Makes me cringe even thinking about it ! If you need a reason to get out of bed maybe you can pick up tennis again. I wish I could but since the end of last year I have had a right shoulder that regularly barks at me, particularly for all over-hand activity. I think that I may have injured the rotator cuff when I helped my wife move a pallet of bricks to the backyard, at least that was the most noteworthy physical activity that occurred before this pain developed. But unless it goes away, my tennis career is over, and while this is the time of year I think about looking for a softball league, I'd be worthless there too. Your mention of over-hand activity sounds similar to a condition I had some years ago -- what they call frozen shoulder. It lasted about a month to 6 weeks, but only because I went to rehab to fix it. Range motion exercises and some other treatments involving electrical stimulation. Without the treatments, it could have lasted as long as what you're describing, but I was assured it would eventually clear up on it's own over time. As I understand it, the condition arises when some fiber-like material in the shoulder socket basically seizes up and hardens, making even the lifting of your arm over your shoulder quite painful. I couldn't start a lawn mower, for example, because I could not pull my arm back that far. I would wake up in the night literally screaming in pain because I'd rolled over on my arm. Freaked my (then-) wife out. Not fun for either of us.
