  1. Last night - the Pat Martino 'Martino Unstrung' documentary film with Martino and Ian Knox (film-maker) in attendance for a Q&A session. Tonight - Martino's trio in live performance.
  2. Dan Dare Digby The Mekon
  3. Pat Martino 'Desperado' (Prestige blue label, stereo)
  4. Bilbo Frodo Gimli
  5. Yes, his Radio 3 shows ('Jazz Today' and 'Jazz In Britain') were superb. He certainly influenced my choice in listening. Some of my Blue Note LPs also have 'CF' scribbled on the back - they were his review copies. Mark of Quality !
  6. Along with Charles Fox, part of the mighty triumvirate. Their reviews were/are invariably worth reading. Jazz Journal always did court controversy. I recall a 'campaign' against banjos in jazz back in the 70s - it was very funny at the time.
  7. Miles Davis We Want Miles' (UK CBS 2LP) An astonishingly under-rated recording in the great man's ouvre. And Teo at the helm of the console.
  8. The man on the left will be familiar to viewers of crappy 70s British sitcoms. Apologies.. :blush2:
  9. Cannon Ball Mr Balls
  10. Raymond Burr Peter Falk Telly Savales
  11. More holiday listening time Julian Priester 'Polarization' (German ECM) 'Gil Evans Plus 10' (Esquire, mono)
  12. I like 'The Colonel' myself - a very open-minded chap..
  13. L'Art du Son is also much cheaper than RRL Very true. For those of us in Europe it's about 1/10 of the price and maybe even less, when you factor in the change to £/$. No brainer !
  14. That 'Jazz FM' magazine was actually quite good for a while - but only lasted a year or so until the 80s filofax Yuppies turned away from jazz ! Of all the magazines currently out there, I prefer 'Jazz Review'. JazzWise is OK and it's good that it's readily accessible - however I find some of the articles of borderline interest.
  15. I've found that three applications per side, with the first application being a 'soak' for a minute or two before wipeoff/suction usually does the trick. Failing this, another cycle of applications is then usually enough. I'm more than happy with the results with L'Art du Son. At least as good as the Record Research Solutions kit and definitely better than VPI's own liquid.
  16. Hopefully they will model it on the old 'Jazz Monthly'. The best by far IMO - although it passed on nearly 40 years ago. Probably so good because of the line-up of critics/reviewers that they had. Almost an academic journal. I'd wondered what happened to the forthcoming 'Jazz Review' - the latest issue was overdue and my local stockist had been expecting it but not yet received it. I'll personally miss the old 'Jazz Journal', for all its faults. Some good articles usually to be found in there and I liked the Steve Voce column and the record reviews (admittedly though it's glory days were back in the 70s and 80s). Life goes on though !
  17. The Baldry and Mayall documentaries are quite good. Again. a fair bit of vintage BBC film footage.
  18. Happy Birthday !
  19. Andy Pandy Looby Loo Weed
  20. I still have the coupon which was part of a six-page brochure from Charles Mingus Records that came with the original 2LP album. That Monterey 1965 release is listed at $7.98 (plus $1.00 'on all European orders to cover shipping costs') Awesome ! Thanks Guy - conjours up images of Mingus sauntering down the road to the PO with your package in hand. Probably with shot-gun slung over shoulder.
  21. Happy Birthday from me too !
  22. I caught a club performance by McBride's group shortly after this CD was issued. I recall one fabulous Wayne Shorter ballad that was the highlight of the set. I've got the CD somewhere, will have to dig it out.
  23. Good point... If you live in the US, that is..
