  1. Followed up by some Status Quo?
  2. David Snell? He's usually damn good.
  3. What you need is their 'Manfred Mann Chapter 3' stuff released on LP for Vertigo - I'm not aware of any CD issue though. Excellent stuff, with UK jazzers of the time such as Harry Beckett and Henry Lowther featured.
  4. What a waste of a good sound system !
  5. CD equivalent to quantitative easing?
  6. Saw Woody Herman there in about 1978. I wonder if 'Free' was in the band?
  7. Has to be Dave, I'm afraid. Don't dislike his recordings but they don't 'grab' me.
  8. My Lee/Christy set has just arrived in the mail - and no additional customs charge I'm pleased to say.
  9. Beveridge Stafford Cripps Aneurin Bevan
  10. Thanks for the details David and looking forward to both reading your notes on this and hearing the music. Remixed and mastered by the maestro, Malcolm Addey too. Splendid ! 'The Things We Did Last Summer' was also a stand-out track on 'Hub of Hubbard' with Freddie on flugel horn - it will be fascinating to hear this alternative version.
  11. Wasn't 'Without A Song' also one of the tracks on Freddie's 'The Hub Of Hubbard' recorded for MPS/SABA around this time (along with Eddie Daniels)?
  12. In these times of global financial catastrophe, some things never change ! Yes Bill, it would have been the same tour. The sleeve note mentions that the tour was produced and directed by Sonny Lester (hence the line-up of Solid State artists of the time) - recorded in Germany (just says 1969, no firm date - although mention of fog would seem to pin point it at Feb/March/April) and that the concert tour covered 10 days and spanned Italy, England, France and Denmark as well as Germany. Nice one ! (although it's a real shame that Thad & Mel's band arrangements went AWOL for this visit. A jam on some of their charts of the time e.g. 'Balanced Scales = Justice' would have been a challenge and a half). This 2LP set was bought from the upstairs top shelf (and rarely perused) racks of latter-day Mole Jazz in Kings Cross for £1 - absolutely covered in 30 years of dust and crud but once cleaned up it sounded fine. I sneezed non-stop for about a week though.

  14. Some 17th-Century colonial must have got his/her words screwed up when they stepped on shore in Virginia Thad & Mel's band are do 'Don't Get Sassy' on side 1 of this 2LP set and they join up with Steig, Hubbard, McGriff and Burrell on Thad's 'Once Around' on side 4. The set is titled 'Volume 1' but I would guess poor sales precluded Vols 2 onwards back in the day. It's a Sonny Lester production by the way so the original intention may have been to issue it on Solid State.

  16. I got me one on Dawn ! Cover designer must have been going to satanic rituals.
  17. My guess would be the Hubbard material only. The rest of 'Jazz Wave' includes material by Thad & Mel, Kenny Burrell, Jimmy McGriff and Jeremy Steig - a bit of a hotch-potch. The original sound wasn't the greatest either but I'll check the LPs later today to re-aquaint with the Hubbard performance. I personally thought the Thad & Mel performance on this one was the best.
  18. Happy Birthday - Hope everything is free for you today !
  19. Just got hold of the Series 1 and 2 DVD boxes of 'The Twilight Zone'. I'll be checking them out tonight.
  20. Looks like I'm sorted for the Martino/Arguelles performance at the Everyman. Also got my tickets for the 'Jazz Legends' broadcast recordings with Henry Grimes and Dave Liebman plus the free ticket for 'Martino Unplugged' and the 'Jazz On Three' broadcast session. Not bad - 5 tickets, 4 of them for free . I'll likely be adding other gigs over the next week or so to this lot (starting with the Dunmall/Grimes/Cyrille - should be spectacular). Excellent ! There still seems to be reasonable availability for tickets, although Madeleine Peyroux is either sold out or very near to selling out.
  21. Yep, I'd guess that up to 5,000 of them would be 'Euro-Mosaics'.
