  1. Whilst opening up this set I re-discovered an old Sun Ra programme, Northeastern University 1990, which I thought I had lost. Four trumpets in the lineup !
  2. The recent ‘1965’ CD release by Tubby has a very interesting prototype version of the ‘Proof’ Suite recorded for the BBC by the Commonwealth Big Band. Quite an ear-opener ! I’ve got that one on King somewhere (if I can find it ).
  3. I think on that interview he did with the German collector guy (on YouTube) it was mentioned that they don’t duplicate between the series. I agree - ‘Wahoo’ would make an excellent TP. Yes, I guess it could come out on the ‘80th’ series. Failing that, there is always the Pathe Marconi issue, which I recall being not too bad..
  4. Yeah, I have a mono ‘Green Street’ too and in pretty well archival quality. Won’t need a TP on that one ! (although I think it came out on MM so under Joe Harley rules it won’t be a TP I guess). The £2 ‘Latin Bit’ was in a clearance bin from years ago and they also had a trashed £2 Mobley ‘No Room For..’ which I passed on and should have got just for the cover. The same store had a mono NY ‘Out For Lunch’ on the wall for £10 which I snagged.
  5. The only solution is to ban and impound all Brinkmann, LP12, RP10 etc.
  6. ‘Curtain Call’ was about £32 at my local. Probably £ for $ compared to our US friends so no great bargain. First impressions on this one are very good though - it is big sounding. I’ll have to compare it against the Mosaic LP. To be followed by this one. Also a TP - I have a (£2!) NY mono pressing of this one but the snap-crackle-and-pop can get obtrusive.
  7. Good time to buy them now as people offload various titles as they pick up Tone Poets !
  8. A copy of said LP was intimidating me up on the overhead rack in the record store this afternoon so I capitulated. I think my ‘Mr Tanno’ collection will remain as the backbone of my Blue Notes as well as originals. Those Kings and Toshibas sound super-good on half-way decent decks, can’t go wrong.
  9. I hear you. That applies to the ‘Tone Poets’ as well and in general I have held off on those where I have Japanese or original pressings. The Hank ‘Curtain Call’ is tempting but as it is on the Mosaic, not worth the effort (unless someone advises otherwise ).
  10. I have Tal’s signature on a club flyer over one of my shelves. Reminded of it today when I was scanning the rack - it was obtained on my behalf and I never saw/met him but such a nice friendly message !
  11. Have this on CD but nice to pick up a copy of the limited Resonance/RTI 3LP set. Good as the CDs are, this particular version ‘kicks ass’.
  12. NY mono version - presumably released for airplay.
  13. The best way to enjoy this set I find is to put the disks on and imagine that you are an audience member at Ronnie Scott’s for that engagement. Works for me and very glad that this set has been put out and as a quality release.
  14. BN Liberty Blue/black This one came from fellow board member Dan I think.
  15. Is that Chicago Blues set the 2020 Record Store Day one? A good afternoon to open this box.
  16. CD2 includes this classic from ‘Gonks Go Beat’. Look out in the clip for a young John McLaughlin in the pink trousers and shades ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPEAK3RjfLk
  17. Aha, no wonder I’ve never seen it. ‘Jazzman’ is a good reissue label over here but different styles of jazz, usually European obscurity reissues.
  18. Don’t think I’ve seen that sleeve version before. The only versions I know are the Black Lion and the Rearward.
