  1. The Complete Mosaic Mosaic Records would be good !
  2. Another straggler from RSD just picked up. Candid release in clear translucent vinyl (). Sounds damn good though. Nicely done card sleeve and facsimile labels. All analogue. Should be a good new series, this one.
  3. Same here brownie, mine are the LP versions as well. Job for the long weekend to re-visit !
  4. A clip of that was on the recent Billie Holiday documentary, I think the engagement was at the London Palladium. Mal Waldron was on piano and is visible in the clip. They ‘colourised’ the clip in the documentary.
  5. I have both of them too and need to revisit them !
  6. I was umming and ahing about Cheltenham, it is quite a trek and parking is never great. If I did go it would be Sunday to see the Westbrooks.
  7. Mine is pretty random, no plan to it at all. I do segregate original Blue Notes, Impulses etc. and British Jazz has its own rack. Mosaics also stored together. Amazing that I ever find anything.
  8. And a classic Thad & Mel album and not the disco glitter-ball fest that the label it came on would indicate, thank goodness. And essential !
  9. The ‘79 set was a ‘must have’ for me, having seen the group in their last UK week in 1980. Very nostalgic, as they played quite a number of the same tunes on the 2LP set (‘Theme from Mash’, ‘Laurie’, ‘If You Could See Me Now’, ‘Nardis’). Both sets I think have been getting very good write ups - as you say, Jazzwise gives the earlier set the edge. I’ll give the ‘73 set a spin tonight.
  10. JazzMessengers seemed to have had a fair number (at least 15) in stock - at least for a few hours until they sold out. Their price was good too - certainly better than that asked by most UK stores on the day. It’s sure to be a good release and apparently the sound has been much cleaned up - the CD version will be fine too. Very happy with the 2 Bill Evans sets. The notes on that 1979 set really illuminate the background to that tour.
  11. Another good one from Resonance. Well recorded and Evans’ Trio in fine form in the run up to the final period. Sound is fine - maybe a bit distant perhaps in what must have been a large auditorium but more than acceptable, nice and crisp.
  12. I played the whole set yesterday. It is a very good performance, well recorded in front of a sympathetic room and with what sounds like a good atmosphere. I believe it was recorded on the last night of the Scott residency, so the band was well ‘played in’. Charles McPherson is predictably good, although I really like the spirited playing of the young John Faddis, on what must have been his first appearance in the UK. The sound was recorded on 8 track I think by the Pye Mobile Vehicle crew who used to support UK CBS in that era. Bernie Grundman has mastered the LP set I believe and has done a great job. Comprehensive sleeve notes as per usual, including a nice essay by Brian Priestley, who was present at earlier nights I believe.
  13. Well, the thought is in the right place, although futile.
  14. Picked up the Ayler from JazzMessengers - by some miracle they had it in stock. The Pepper Adams too. That’s me done for at least 12 months.
  15. Sounds good to me and saves the chase and $. Another spin for this. ‘Discipline 27B’ on side B rocks - I remember Sun Ra and co. playing this when I saw them in 1989. Introductory fanfare with Ra entering the auditorium with expansive gestures and June Tyson doing the honours with his cloak.
  16. The Pepper Adams isn’t released in the RSD over here, sadly. Might have a shufty tomorrow to see if I can find the (Art) Pepper. Not spun the Evanses yet but that Mingus set is a ringer.
  17. Next up this Arkestra release on German label In-n-Out. Signed on the front by Marshall Allen, bless him.
  18. Yeah, it’s sad that a release of this importance isn’t given a better vinyl quantity. The numbering on mine mentions first pressing though so hopefully there will be a second press. Apparently this RSD release was 5000 worldwide, 500 allocated to the UK. Crazy saw soloing on the set by Roy Brooks - well received by the Scotts audience !
  19. Picked this one up on the 3LP set RSD release today. Excellent sonics and great live club atmosphere. Very interesting band lineup too. Recommended !
  20. I was there not too long before opening. A bit over an hour wait in line but they took preorders by paper, worked well. Managed to get all of the ones I was after (including the two Bill Evans releases), noticed that the two copies that the store had of the Albert Ayler had already gone to people ahead of me. Taylor Swift sold out real quick. The Mingus is a real treat - superbly recorded and with a great club atmosphere. Good playing too. Some folks were queued out there already late last night, apparently !
  21. Just cracking open this one.
  22. Yes, the Albany memoir written by his daughter does mention some of those UK and Europe gigs.
