  1. Kenny Wheeler 'Music For Large and Small Ensembles' (ECM 2LP)
  2. Kenny Wheeler 'Gnu High' (ECM)
  3. Are the Viao's that bad? I have my eye on one (laptop) for a possible second PC - there seem to be some good deals on them at the moment. Perhaps that's why?
  4. Julian Priester/Pepo Mtoto 'Love, Love' (ECM)
  5. Can't believe it was he playing the trumpet outside Buck House on VE Day !
  6. Speaking of which, where's Dr. J these days? Hoffmann Forums !
  7. Used to have the stereo original (silver sticker on the cover). When Contemporary reissued it I told Lester Koenig I preferred the original. He was very hurt. He felt he cut better lp masters than anyone. Interesting - didn't realise they issued a stereo of this one on Hifi Jazz. Have to say that I prefer this cover art to the Contemporary alternative. The copy I have is marked 'demonstration record - property of manufacturer - not for sale' so I guess I have to send it back to Mr Axelrod? 999 times out of 1000 I think Mr Koenig was correct..
  8. 'Elmo Hope Trio' (HiFi Jazz mono)
  9. That makes me jealous. Ronnie Mathews is always a blast to hear, always swings like crazy. Still pumping out that great 'Rumproller' sound.
  10. Danny D'Imperio Danny Barker Danny Boy Dan Dare Digby The Mekon
  11. And what a great session it is. Idrees Sulieman, so under-rated. Kenny Burrell providing a great guitar backing groove (almost Freddie Green-like at times) and the superlative combination of Doug Watkins and Louis Hayes. And as for Coltrane.. Doesn't get better !
  12. Yep, I want it. A bit envious. It's a pretty good sounding copy, Porcy and in great condition. My understanding is that the majority of copies of this one are very noisy - a real shame. New Jazz's quality control was never one of their strongest points.
  13. Tommy Flanagan 'The Cats' (New Jazz DG mono). With John Coltrane.
  14. Norma Winstone 'Edge of Time' (UK Argo, stereo)
  15. No kidding ! What a sad day this is - but great that he's remained 'on air' for so long. First heard his show back in 1974 and was fortunate enough to meet him after one of his gigs and to get him to sign his book a few years ago. Put in an in-person request for him to play some Horace Silver (not sure if it was played but he's the type of guy that would honour such a thing if possible, I'm sure).
  16. 'Born To Be Blue' I think. No tracks from 'Am I Blue' on the Mosaic. A listening of Mosaic LP3 has reinforced my comment that the sound on the LPs is very good. Stereo separation also excellent.
  17. Grant Green/Sonny Clark Blue Note LP set, LP3
  18. I've got the Mosaic LPs and the 'Matador' on King. The King LP probably has the edge but the Mosaic is also very good in terms of sonics.
  19. Jean-Luc Ponty 'Electric Connection' (World Pacific, stereo)
  20. Very sad news, RIP. I'll spin the Blakey 'Gypsy Folk Tales' LP a bit later in tribute.
  21. That's damn cheap ! Minimum I've seen round here is £1.03 a litre, which equates to about £4.60 a gallon, ie. a socking $9.75 a gallon There were 'plans' by the Government to add another 2p per litre tax in todays budget but looks like they might defer it. Maybe they think they will have another fuel mutiny on their hands. Around here minimum is £1.039. But where you have to go to get that price, you might as well pay the average of £1.069 and save your petrol. MG I think I'll pass on my planned motorbike trip to Scotland this summer. Don't cancel the trip - but I recommend a 50cc Garelli Bimatic
  22. "Authorities said they did not know if she was mentally or physically disabled." Sounds like both..
  23. Maybe in 2010 Music Matters will get round to doing 45rpm versions of these titles? Haven't heard a Cisco pressing - in fact haven't seen any of them over here.
  24. Rahsaan Roland Kirk 'Slightly Latin' (Limelight, stereo). Sound significantly better than on the 10CD Kirk box (was that one dubbed from a mono LP?). RRK meets Herb Alpert and Star Trek
