  1. Nice to hear it. I'm looking forward to my set.
  2. Just remembered that Kofi was, I think, in the lineup for Sam Rivers' UK Rivbea Orchestra a few years back. On baritone. What an evening that was !
  3. How about this one? Film and TV soundtrack music composed by Libaek but played by the cream of 60s and 70s Australian jazz session players (John Sangster and others).
  4. Hm - not sure, but it wouldn't suprise me. Have been diggin' this one a lot today. OK, not a new album and maybe more straight-ahead MOR album than jazz but very classy, nevertheless and a super selection of songs by Ms Martin. Me likes :rsmile: and its on Linn Records !
  5. Must be something in the water up there ! Yes, I'll second the comment that Kofi live is always a very good show. Especially if he's in a big band on baritone.
  6. Not much I can add other than to say I'm truly sorry to hear this too. Hang in there..
  7. Excellent !
  8. That play was one of the more unlikely Miles Davis/Gil Evans collaborations. With Elaine Stritch and Lawrence Harvey !
  9. If you love this material, get the box ! Some great stuff on here - 'Time Of The Barracudas' recorded in Hollywood with the 60s quintet plus LA musicians and all those takes of 'Falling Water' - never tire of it. The sound is first rate too and the essays some of the best in a Miles Davis box set.
  10. I should have mentioned too that for those of delicate disposition there is a Michael Jackson viewer advisory too.
  11. Check this out ! Not sure if it has been previously posted. Advisory - some spoof blood and gore and a Roxy Music cover.
  12. Mal Waldron 'The Quest' (Prestige Blue Label 2nd press, stereo)
  13. Bobby Hutcherson 'The View From The Inside' (BN blue label)
  14. Pussy Galore Mrs Slocombe John Inman
  15. Bobby Hutcherson 'Waiting' (BN UA blue label)
  16. I saw Lol once in the basement of a pub in Nottingham in the 80s. He did a gig in a builder's skip up in North Yorkshire either last year or the year before. Malton, I think.
  17. Yes, Happy Birthday !
  18. 'Extensions' - one of my favourite Dave Holland albums. What a great lead-in to the album track 1 is - and a great feature for Eubanks. Dave Holland's bass playing rock solid as always and Smitty Smith adding great dynamism. I was lucky enough to see this quintet play many of the tracks from this album back in about 1991 in Edmonton, Alberta from the back of the stage, right behind Eubanks . They led off with the title track that night too. Not to forget either the excellent album cover art by ECM's Barbara Wojirsch.
  19. Chet Feretti Chet Baker Ma Baker

    Gigi Gryce

I'll second the recommendation on the Gryce book. A thumpin' good read !
  21. Wow - thanks for that. To my mind, Turner was the 'mainstream' musician par excellence. Looked comfortable in both idioms. Have his early 60s Philips LP somewhere, will dig it out. Also interesting to see Colin Bates on piano - another stalwart of mainstream British jazz.
  22. Me too please !
