  2. I've just ordered the Speakers Corner pressing of 'El Chico'. Will post thoughts once I receive it.
  3. 'Nuff said. If their vinyl is as good as their cars (which I swear by) then I'm there ! Their Blue Notes can be very good too - based on the German Liberty pressings I have from the late 1960s. Well, I hope people around here don't use DMM as a criteria before buying their car! The future of French car industry would be very bleak! I would agree, concerning those French DMMs. I bought tons of them back in the day, when they were like a 'Mana from Heaven' for poor UK Blue Note buyers who had never even seen these albums before. The first batch of them I saw in the foyer of the Festival Hall back around 1984 and seeing the likes of 'Inner Urge', 'Whistle Stop' and 'Unity' with original sleeve art almost had me rendered speechless. Not a patch on the originals though. Having said that, they did result in the music becoming at least available to a wider public.
  4. I'm jealous! Unless you let me make an offer... Don't have many of the Debuts. Wish I had more. A bit of 'homework' before I check out cecil in performance tonight.

  6. Lined up for action this morning - Hank Mobley: 'Roll Call' (BN 47W63rd DG mono) 'Soul Station' (BN 47W63rd DG mono) 'Workout' (BN 47W6rd/NY USA mono DG one side) 'No Room For Squares' (BN NY USA mono) and Cecil Taylor's 'At Cafe Montmatre' (Danish Debut).
  7. Cecil Taylor with Anthony Braxton and Tony Oxley tonight at the Royal Festival Hall.
  8. Hope it's a great one !
  9. I would like to bring this lost gem to the attention of the Board membership. Originally pressed back in the early 1960s on the obscure Airborne label and only 99 copies (to avoid tax) this 10" has been reissued by Trunk on CD and limited edition vinyl. I've auditioned the vinyl and it is real nice. Read About It Here
  10. Craig Charles Jimmy Tarbuck Ken Dodd and his Diddymen
  11. Sun Ra 'On Jupiter' (Art Yard)
  12. I'd go for Gato - but then that's just me. :rsmile:
  13. Slim was a pretty surreal act himself. He's another one who did a few programmes for the BBC - I've got one of them taped somewhere. Wish they would repeat them !
  14. Originally from Liverpool. Scouser !
  15. Picked that one up not too long ago and I can recommend it. If you've seen one of his solo sets live you'll know what to expect - tasteful standards and originals played to perfection. Cedar is one of the most consistent players (live or recorded) I've ever come across and one of the first (at Ronnies with Eastern Rebellion) I ever saw live.
  16. Sun Ra 'Lanquidity' (Philly Jazz reissue) Michael Garrick Trio 'Moonscape' (Trunk Records)
  17. Mines a 47W63rd mono Deep groove - near mint sleeve and vinyl (it was stuck in a cupboard for 40 years). Don't think I've seen a Lex copy of this before.
  18. There was also a good BBC4 TV documentary broadcast a few years back (during the 'Jazz Britannia' seasons) called 'Melly's Dives' in which George went on tour revisiting some of his old haunts of the 50s around the country - old basement bars, various B&B dives and the Manchester Free Trade Hall. Fascinating stuff.
  19. For an interesting insight into the recording sessions for Columbia, it's worth checking out the 'Straight, No Chaser' video, some of which was filmed in Columbia's studio. Quite a relaxed session I recall, with repartee from Teo Macero and Count Basie actually staring the maestro out during one of his solos. Fascinating ! Not sure which that session was - 'Criss Cross', perhaps?
  20. Mike Westbrook Brass Band 'Mama Chicago' (UK RCA 2LP demo copy)
  21. Indeed - and fantastically well recorded. I'll dig out the vinyl later on.
  22. There's one from the 70s called 'Animation' - on CBS I think (or was it RCA?).
  23. Nat Adderley 'Sayin' Somethin'' (UK Atlantic mono - Polydor pressing). First one of these Polydor Atlantics that I've seen.
