The Crown LPs had little distribution over here. Can't remember seeing but very few of their jazz albums. For some reason, their blues albums were more visible. Bought a bunch of their B.B. King and John Lee Hooker in their time. Cheaply made and cheaply sold! They went out of sight very quickly. Weren't these Crowns mainly for sale in US gas stations, Woolworths etc?

How is this? The actual soundtrack for "A Patch of Blue" is often listed as a favorite by Jerry Goldsmith fans, but it's never done that much for me. It's a great session. Well worth while. It strays rather far from "program music" or a "concept record," and the rhythm section of Bob Cunningham and Roger Blank give it a tighter groove than some of Dickerson's other sessions from the period. The rhythm section of Bob Cunningham and Roger Blank is outstanding. A fascinating album - Ra also plays a bit of spooky celeste (which sounds more like harpsichord to me).

Was over in Wales myself yesterday. The rain followed me back over the Severn Bridge and it's been pouring ever since ! Bloody UK... On the other hand, it does give one the opportunity to spin some more vinyl.

It's good. Just spinning the first LP on UK CBS this weekend and can recommend it to all Wyatt fans. Not sure about 'Little Red Record' though, not heard that one.

Interesting. My 'domestic' CD from the late 80s certainly sounds a bit one dimensional and with noticeable distortion during some of the horn unison passages. The mono Liberty LP sounds 'OK' - although to be honest I don't think this was ever one of RVGs greater efforts.

Just picked up the 'Sven'. I like it - particularly side 1, even though it would seem that the music is lifted from vinyl sources only. Anyone else have some high frequency distortion on side 2 of their vinyl copy ?

Talking of Kenny, there's the intriguing prospect of hearing him alongside Bob Brookmeyer as part of Hans Koller's Octet at the Cheltenham Fest in May.

Indeed - he's still musically active and gigging around the UK. Long overdue for some major recognition !
