  1. Fathead Rhino 'House of David' 2CD is being loaded into the CD player in recognition ! 'The Clincher' etc
  2. Totally agree with you about Roberta Gambarini, Durium. She is a class act indeed - fine performance at Northsea last year with Hank Jones. I wouldn't have got the rest of the answers in a thousand years but I'll listen anew to these tracks as an education !
  3. Sad news - a prolific and fine guitarist on the West Coast scene. Caught him just the once I think with an orchestra put together by Fred Katz and Pete Rugolo. RIP.
  4. Miles Davis 'We Want Miles' (UK CBS 2LP)
  5. Strangely though, Mike has confirmed that he doesn't much like this album. Personally, I love it ! It seems to successfully soak in some of the rock, soul and folk influences of the time.
  6. Does vinyl count? If so, you can add the French CBS 3LP set 'The Essential Miles Davis'. The one with the groovy velveteen cover and bonus 45rpm 'Great Expectations'.
  7. Weird!!! I've just put my bottle back in the pantry and opened a 660ml bottle of Greene King IPA instead. I need the volume tonight. 1L of Ruddles County. Nearly Friday !
  8. Art Blakey 'The Freedom Rider' (BN NY USA mono)
  9. Could be something in that. In general I think there were always more copies of the American stuff whereas British material by Ardley, Rendell/Carr, Garrick, Harriott, Tubbs etc were often pressed only in the hundreds. Subtract the number of LPs trashed over the years or just thrown out/skipped and that doesn't leave too many in circulation.
  10. MFP issued a very nice Bossa Nova LP by a British tenor player called Duncan Lamont, that a friend of mine used to have. Nice bird in a red dress on the cover, too. They also issued the best compilation of early Jr Walker I've ever come across. Although it was called "Shotgun", it wasn't the same as the real "Shotgun" LP - it was almost all instrumental. MG Duncan is still active musically - last time I saw him he was in the sax section for Kenny Wheeler's Big Band. He did quite a lot of 'library' sessions in the 60s for deWolfe, Bosworth etc and also MOR sessions for the likes of Studio 2 as well as MFP.
  11. Very nice cover for 'Gil Evans Plus 10' on Esquire:
  12. Grant Green 'Am I Blue' (BN NY USA mono) Anyone who says the music on this LP is crap needs their ears testing !
  13. What a great front-line combination Woody Shaw and Joe Farrell were on that 'Tones' date. It is indeed a 'ringer' of a session. Corea is also wonderful. He showed great drive, taste and groove on this session - all of which (for me at least) seemed to go to the dogs after the late 60s.
  14. Great minds think alike... Or maybe we are both anal retentives...
  15. Go on, just order both ! The Hodges is well up on my own 'wants' list by the way. I have the earlier Norgran/Clef LP set and have high hopes for this later Verve set.
  16. Me too, or between the sleeve if it's a getefold cover. And all inside in a plastic outer sleeve, for dust. Yep, I do the same with one of those thick PVC covers. Plus cardboard inner if its a flimsy rarity.
  17. Never heard of this! Is there a reiussue? Anything like the Joe Harriott albums? It's just come out on CD here in the UK. Look out also for the one by the 'Indo Jazzmen' on Saga. Those MFP albums were like K-Tel - you used to be able to get them in Woolworths and the like for about £0.50 in the late 60s/early 80s. Saga, Studio 2 etc were others. Lots of cheesy 'Top of the Pops' cover compilations (worth buying just for the babes on the front covers).
  18. Yes, Happy Birthday Mike !
  19. I always store the LP behind the sleeve, in one of those Japanese anti-static inners, when I can get hold of them.
  20. Javier Perez de Cuellar Danilo Perez Shimon Peres
  21. I guess it was the Victor Feldman connection. This must have been recorded on one of Feldman's trips home shortly after emigrating to the US.
  22. Baby Face Willette 'Stop and Listen' (BN NY USA mono) 'The World of Dudley Moore' (Decca stereo)
  23. Have a great one !
