  1. I'm finding with the Dexter set that about 2 CDs at a time is about right. Very enjoyable set ! Nothing earth-shattering but no crap either.
  2. Elvin Jones 'Time Capsule' (Vanguard). With Bunky Green !
  3. I'm time-travelling. Just posted my 'looks familiar' ubu so I think things are OK. Thanks again.
  4. "Untitled Latin/Minnie Ripperton (co 121827 tk 7) (Q) 4:01 from 5/5/75" Looks interesting. Presumably a tribute to Minnie Ripperton as was done for Messrs Willie Nelson and Billy Preston and not a collaboration with Ripperton?
  5. Jimmy Smith 'A New Sound.. A New Star' (BN 47W63rd side 1/Lex side 2 DG mono) 'Tenderly' on side 2 is a real rip-roarin' tour-de-force !
  6. Isn't that an 11-CD set? Yep, it's 11CD not 8.
  7. Is this the one you had in mind: Bill Barron - Modern Windows Suite - Savoy Looks familiar !
  8. Yes, ubu - I think those are the ones. Thanks ! Certainly remember seeing that Lateef and the Coltrane/Harden. Probably the Lateef I was thinking of concerning the colour. I first noticed these around 94-ish so maybe the fact that they disappeared sharpish was that they were already obsolete. Perhaps my memory is playing tricks though re: Bill Barron.
  9. Ozzie Cadena was booking gigs at the Lighthouse Hermosa Beach last time I called in there. Nice guy !
  10. ... unlike the centre of Rio, where even the taxi drivers go through red lights as a matter of course (as I found out first hand). Almost as bad as the driving over here !
  11. Dexter Gordon Prestige 8CD set, CD1. Thank you zweitausendeins !
  12. Don't think they were cardboard and I don't recall those titles. The only place I saw them for sale (and fleetingly) was North America. Distinctly remember that Bill Barron !
  13. What about those white case (or were they light blue - can't remember) limited edition Savoy twofers that seemed to come and go in a flash around 1994/95. I remember seeing Yusef Lateef and a Bill Barron 2CD sets - and these weren't facsimiles of the Savoy Reissue Series LPs. Not sure exactly what material was on these but they weren't cheap at the time (at least $20). I regret not picking up the Barron !
  14. Brian Morton Stanley Crouch Peter Crouch
  15. That's in the 'frontal lobotomy' league.
  16. George's 'Why Not' on the 'Why Not' label is also really good.
  17. I noted that they issued four volumes of the sessions on vinyl, wich one do you suggests, considering that I am not a huge Pepper's fan? I recommend getting hold of the Japanese Contemporary box of Vols 1 to 3, if you can find it porcy. Mr Tanno sometimes has a copy available.
  18. Sharon Stone Britney Spears Kojak
  19. The Complete Blue Note Freddie Redd, LP1
  20. Looks like early material from around 1954/55 with Kenny Graham's Afro-Cubists, Kenny Baker, Tony Kinsey and Harriott's group on Esquire and Melodisc. I'll look out for this one !
  21. Right - I'm joining you. Where's that cable dealer?
  22. Ah - Audio Research/Linn with an LP12. I would love to audition those speaker cables and then maybe sell a few body parts to purchase them. I can only imagine what the ol' 47W63rd monos sound like on that little lot. Nice !
  23. Lotto win? Is that with a Naim system, Porcy?
  24. The Crown LPs had little distribution over here. Can't remember seeing but very few of their jazz albums. For some reason, their blues albums were more visible. Bought a bunch of their B.B. King and John Lee Hooker in their time. Cheaply made and cheaply sold! They went out of sight very quickly. Weren't these Crowns mainly for sale in US gas stations, Woolworths etc?
