  1. Happy Birthday too !
  2. my favorite, by far of this winstone,(husband)taylor, kenny wheeler collaboration, the first they recorded about 35 years ago is the 'touchstone.' subsequent recordings have been fine, but dont equal touchstone. the empathy between vocals, piano-keyboards, and trumpet-flugel is astounding. beautiful beautiful. in fact i bought another german pressing just in case. of my 5000 recordings, this one is securely in my top 10. end of rant. my the way, taylor has a sumptuous new trio disc, not on ecm. There's also a fine ECM LP with Tony Coe in place of Kenny Wheeler - sort of an 'honourary' Azimuth. All of the ECMs are well worth having IMO. Saw that group many years ago (1987?) at an early incarnation of the Bath Festival in Georgian suroundings. Superb !
  3. Have a great day, Big Al !
  4. There was a TV programme the other day about the re-cent reintroduction of the huge Eagle Owl into the UK. So far about 20 or 30 birds have established (probably visitors from 'mainland' Europe) and mainly nesting up North in Yorkshire but some have been tracked to urban areas in the South. It's not clear if these were ever 'native' to the UK but - if so - they have not been established here for hundreds of years. Much worry about cute moggies being snatched from suburban gardens..
  5. I hear you ! Much nashing of teeth from me of late to 'avoid' the Condon Mob set.
  6. A pheasant sleeping outside on my patio the other morning. It had woken up and scarpered before I had chance to fill it with shot.
  7. Brother Ah Sun Ra Moondog
  8. I thought that's what the Merkheft was..
  9. Track 15 is The 4th Track from this fabulous compilation !
  10. Track 12 is Track 6 of This One. A fine trumpeter who sadly passed away only quite recently and this was the only recording under his own name. The tenorist is a certain 'rotund' individual.. I wonder if this is track 9 on Ubu's Ipod?
  11. First impressions half-way in on disk A is that there is a definite 'Dusty' influence to this compilation !
  12. Track 17 is a piece of cake. A classic of 60s Brit-jazz by this fine altoist/flautist and available on this one ! Track 4
  13. That was my fear when I was thinking of picking up this one.
  14. Should be possible to replace with a 'Rare Groove' reissue of this one for not too much $. I feel your pain ! (group hug).
  15. Damn ! No doubt that will also affect the Vancouver trio gig. Here's wishing Andrew the very best.
  16. "Inner Urge" is problematic too...
  17. Fantastic ! Nice to see that there is some justice in this world ! Sometimes these trials we undergo are there for a reason..
  18. Dexter lives ! Check out that 'Rome 1980' DVD 'at a certain site'.
  19. That's my plan too (unless zweitausendeins bale me out). And I can't wait to hear this Nelson Mosaic !
  20. Very interesting. Thanks. Your comment about Ogun being a poor-selling endeavour is curious, too - though I guess they were pressed in larger numbers and sold elsewhere in Europe, and also in the States. I haven't had much trouble finding original Ogun LPs, but the only Turtle vinyl I've seen was at a friend's house, who got three of them for VERY cheap... The Ogun's were definitely pressed in much larger quantities than the Turtles. Your friend was very lucky - all are scarce but the Taylor 'Pause and Think Again' is a real pig to get hold of (and is an absolute beauty IMO). "Big in Japan".
  21. Always been a big fan of his trio version of 'It Don't Mean A Thing..'. A totally new perspective on that well worn classic !
