  1. Nah, not pigs blood. Just the blood of Geordies.
  2. Marks & Spencers own brand best bitter, 500ml !
  3. Nucleus 'Snakehips Etcetera' (Vertigo) cover art !
  4. Nice clip - thanks for that ! Based on Maynard's garb it looks like it was filmed around the same vintage as the 'Chameleon' LP. If my memory is right, Ernie Garside organised that concert at the Croydon Fairfield Hall. He arranged tours for many of the leading US big bands over here around that timeframe, including one of Woody Herman's I also checked out.
  5. I've got a French RCA 3LP box reissue of this one. Will have to dig it out today. Pretty enjoyable stuff, as I recall.
  6. Lin Biviano British? I caught Maynard's band just once, around 1980ish at the Fairfield Halls, Croydon. Agree that he put 100%+ into the show, one heck of a showman. Can't recall who else was in the band but I do remember the innevitable 'Rocky' and also a nice version of 'Superbone Meets The Badman' with Maynard on the superbone. In fact he played that instrument quite a bit during the concert. A hugely enjoyable evening. Playing the Mosaic box this weekend - that stuff is excellent. The band with Willie Maiden packed one heck of a punch for its size.
  7. Up again for this thread after a listen to vinyl Volume 1. A big after listening to Spaulding's extended solo on 'Walkin'. Wonderful. I'm inclined to agree with Big Black's positive verdict on this session.
  8. Sonny Rollins 'The Sound of Sonny' (UK Riverside 'reel' DG mono)
  9. Tina Brooks 'True Blue' (Classic Records 200g mono) My 3rd copy of this gem on vinyl I think.
  10. 'After the television report, the local government quickly issued an order to stop the practice and demanded that village committees have to report details of each funeral plan within 12 hours after a villager dies.' Village Committees will now be working lots of overtime methinks..
  11. You've got to be a black and white fetishist to really appreciate the Big Boxes !
  12. 106 and counting... (I may have missed a couple )
  13. PM sent !
  14. Indeed a very Happy Birthday to Mr Shorter, still one of the most unpredictable tenor/soprano players around and one of the greatest composers in this music. His recent appearance at Northsea Rotterdam was an inspiration. Glad I was there !
  15. Tubby Hayes 'Tubbs' (UK Fontana stereo) Hank Mobley 'No Room For Squares' (BN NY USA mono) Lee Morgan/Freddie Hubbard 'Night of the Cookers Vol 1' (BN NY USA mono)
  16. Smiffy Plugg Lord Snooty
  17. That was a single LP! Due to Connie Kay's abundant use of a crotale for a ride cymbal, this record makes a great tweeter test. Beyond that, it's the funkiest the MJQ ever got - listen to Percy Heath's bass grooves and John Lewis' bluesy comping, which is like a James Brown horn section undernath his elegant touch. There's a copy of that one on LP in my local Oxfam shop. Haven't worked up the nerve though to take it to the nice ladies at the counter..
  18. Maynard Ferguson LP set, LP 7. Working my way through a few LPs in this mammoth set, in recognition of a fine artist.
  19. Yes, the sound quality on the UK Fontana is pretty marvelous too. And the UK version is a bit cheaper..
  20. This is really sad news, I was looking forward to the chance to get to see him live again, somehow this has eluded me though. Always remember his 'feature' at the Montreal Olympics - RIP. The Mosaic box will be coming out tonight in tribute.
  21. Mrs Slocum Mrs Slocum's pussy Felix
