  1. Freddie Roach 'Brown Sugar' (BN NY USA mono) - with Joe Henderson.
  2. Yet another example of rampant UK over-charging.. What a rip off !
  3. Earlier today: Freddie Roach 'Good Move' (BN NY USA stereo)
  4. The UK Stateside and German SABA editions from the 1960s also have that cover art, I think.
  5. Bobby Hutcherson 'Happenings' (BN NY USA stereo)
  6. Just noticed this one - I'll check it out. Thanks for the prompt.
  7. Good decision. Have a great trip up there. The hospitality in that part of Scotland is first rate. The only downer is the rain but with a dram or two inside you that will not be an issue ! Talking of remote bits of Scotland - on one occasion I was driving in the Perth area not far from Culloden (just after a business trip) en route to the airport for a flight back that day. A small sign at one of the small villages said 'Tonight in Village Hall - Stanley Turrentine In Concert'. Can you believe that? To say I was pissed off at missing this would be an understatement. . Not to mention that Stanley T. was touring places out in the middle of nowhere in 'Braveheart' territory !
  8. There's rumours of another batch of Dutton Vocalions imminent and possibly also a volume 3 of the Giles Peterson 'Impressed Repressed' compilation from Universal. The rumours also say that the latter might include tracks by Kenny Wheeler (presumably from 'Windmill Tilter'?) and also from Vic Lewis (I'm guessing here but possibly this might be from the excellent 'Plays Bossa Nova At Home and Away'). It would be nice if these Hayes/Gonsalves sessions also saw light of day again on CD. Not sure what titles they might have in mind for the Dutton Vocalions. There was also a rumour (and a shaky one I think) that the 'Timewind - Mike Taylor Remembered' session might also see the light of day (from 1973). A track from this was included on one of the 'Impressed' compilations but the whole album, although funded by Dennis Preston, was put in the can and was never issued at the time (although Neil Ardley himself did put it out as a limited edition CD some years ago before his tragic death). As well as Neil Ardley this session also includes Ian Carr and Norma Winstone and (based on the track that has so far been reissued) merits release as a priority, I think. Hope we see Vol 3 of the 'Giles Peterson' soon !
  9. Yes, but the price is Colossal! 'K2' it is then !
  10. 'The Incredible Jimmy Smith Vol 1' (Liberty mono 'clone' of 47W63rd issue). Sounds suprisingly good.
  11. The Tubby Hayes/Paul Gonsalves 'Just Friends' was part of the EMI Lansdowne seried produced by Dennis Preston and originally released on UK Columbia. I don't recall any UK CD issue of this one. They also did a joint session released on World Record Club called 'Change of Setting' - again I don't think it's been reissued (allthough a track from this did appear on Vol 2 of the 'Impressed Repressed' compilation). The Gonsalves 'Hummingbird' (without Hayes but with Kenny Wheeler in the lineup) originally issued on Deram has, however, recently been reissued by Dutton Vocalion on CD.
  12. Wayne Shorter 'Speak No Evil' (BN NY USA mono)
  13. Didn't NASA also destroy the original blueprints for the Saturn 5 launch vehicle?
  14. If you wanted to check out a particularly wild and beautiful part of Scotland, head up to the Isle of Skye, accesible via the toll bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh. I did a diving trip up there some years ago and the scenery (above and below water) was spectacular. Difficult to get to and it rains quite a lot - but it's worth the effort. The pubs there are good too !
  15. Can't beat the NYC or Bergenfield vinyl for this one.
  16. It's many, many years since I was last in Montreal but for Cds it might be worth checking out the shopping area in and around St Catherine's St. Not sure if the 'Sam The Record Man' is still there but it's worth checking out that whole area anyway. The 'old' part of town is probably the best bet for jazz clubs - and is well worth checking out for its galleries and restaurants in any event. Make sure you sample the 'local' lobster/seafood ! :rsmile: Sorry I can't help with specifics - last time I was there though was about 1990 (thoroughly enjoyed it !)
  17. Ian Carr 'Belladonna' (Vertigo swirl)
  18. I didn't realize there was already a thread going on... I played at the Idlewild Jazz Festival in 2004 and had come offstage after playing a set with organist Lyman Woodard.. I had a message from the promoter announcing that Rufus needed a drummer for his set later that afternoon.. I get onstage and there's Rufus with his bagpipes, wearing a red, white, & blue kilt, and sporting a big red head bonnet with dredlocks. He came over to me, shook my hand and says, "Thanks for playing with me, start a vamp for "My Favorite Things" and kicked off a bright tempo in a 9/8 afro-latin feel and I heard this bizarre sound in my monitor. It was a weird whining sound that was building in intensity and was Rufus filling the air chamber of his bagpipes before starting the head of the tune.. He played great that day and was a delight on the mic between tunes. He had lots of stories and anecdotes he shared with the audience. I'm glad I had a chance to play with him. I heard him once on a tv talk show in the 60's and never forgot him.. Very cool. Thanks for sharing !
  19. Hope you have a very Happy Birthday ! And get to spin some BJP !
  20. Wow - great bargain !
  21. I'd put on the 'Mosaic Complete Jazz Crusaders Pacific Jazz' set. If she can't groove to that one then there's no chance..
  22. Nucleus material on its way, Roger.
  23. Damn! That's at least a month's listening. Welcome. No Mosaic selects to fill up the package?
  24. Thanks for the advisory. That'll make it easier for us limeys when Mosaics batch 2 eventually appear (he says hopefully ).
  25. I guess Al Shorter's 'Tes Etat' would be off the playlist as welll then?
