  1. Sorry to hear this and good luck with things. Suspect that it's like a lot of these things - hell at the time but after a few years a good perspective takes hold. Possibly a change for the best? (silver linings etc.) With all these things I find it best to set up a good 'action plan' and then implement it. Makes you feel better if nothing else !
  2. 'Accent' is a fine LP by Big John (must dig it out of my racks when I get round to finding it). Copies of the Rare Groove CD/LP shouldn't be too difficult to find in the US.
  3. Here in the UK just about every two bit town or village this hot Summer is jumping on the bandwagon and starting up their "(Insert name of village here) Jazz Festival" as an accompaniment to the picnic/roast but whether or not you'll hear any great jazz seems to be a matter of chance/luck.
  4. The Herc simulator is proving to be even more addictive than the Concord sale. Just flown from RAF Lyneham over to Ireland then got lost somewhere over the Irish Sea. Tried out a few engine start routines en-route somewhere over the Lake District !
  5. That's cos it's a compilation.
  6. Wan't it Marvin Cabell? The original LP came out on Liberty and has been reissued as a 'rare groove' on LP and CD. I think it's OOP and it isn't on the Mosaic Select. Should be able to access some sound samples here: Accent
  7. Anyone else into playing Flight Simulator 2002/04 software? Just trying out Just Flight's C-130 Hercules simulation and I must admit, I'm impressed. These things have come a long way in the last few years. For anyone who knows the Herc you can even mess around with the overhead instrument panels and do a wee spot of in-flight refuelling. I also have Concorde Professional 'Limited Edition' on order so there's a risk I might be diverted indefinitely from jazz and the Org Board... Any recommendations for other great Flight Sim applications?
  8. Belated happy birthday ! Hope it was a good one and that you got lots of new music.
  9. I've got a total allergy to pan pipes in shopping streets so that got my vote..
  10. Fully agree re: the Wess. What a sleeper that 'Long Road' CD is (actually bought it full price ! - am I the only one?). Superbly recorded too and with great horn arrangements. Quite enjoy the Timmons Trios. Purchased in my last zwei batch, must give it another listen.
  11. A bit of classic British jazz tonight: Neil Ardley/Don Rendell/Ian Carr 'Greek Variations' (UK Columbia Lansdowne stereo) Don Rendell/Ian Carr 'Shades of Blue' (UK Columbia Lansdowne mono) Mike Westbrook 'Tyger' (RCA Red Label stereo)
  12. As an aside - anybody else seen Steve White play live? At a West Coast Fest held at Newport Beach in 1999 they did a reunion of the Lighthouse All Stars. Steve White was in the crowd with sax case in hand, was called out and did several numbers. Caused a bit of a stir at the time as it was something of a rare and 'impromtu' performance. Quite a character, I recall and I enjoyed his performance. I'm looking forward to weizy sending me the Fantasy sale CD.
  13. Hi John - guess it is, sorry. I'll clear it.
  14. The World hangs on tenterhooks..
  15. Sorta like how they did the Howard Riley Discussions reish... Yes !
  16. That's what I hoped! I'll get a couple from Hiroshi next paycheck, methinks... Now if they'd just do Le Temps Fou!... These are recommended. To be honest, I don't think they could have done a better job with the packaging. The Lps are provided with two sleeves - one for holding the record and another one for posing with/admiring/framing which has the flipback on the rear cover. Sleeve art is as good a replica as you can get.
  17. Looks like Jethro Tull on a bad day !
  18. Jeez - I'd forgotten how bad that was. Almost brought up my breakfast !
  19. Hope it was a good one !
  20. Wonder what the full list of titles is? Some Big John Patton would be nice !
  21. I've seen a brand spanking new vinyl with this cover in the racks ! (in Rotterdam - and definitely not an 'original'). I suspect that it might be just the 'Arabia' session.
  22. What you need is some additional therapy. Check out the zweitausendeins thread.
