  1. The Buddy Rich should be great. With the inclusion of 'Momemts Notice' etc. it looks like a re-run of the fine RCA 2LP set 'Very Alive At Ronnie Scotts'. One of my favourite Buddy Rich recordings, great atmosphere, great arrangements and the band swings like mad. Recommended.
  2. Great, it's finally coming within range of the Zweitausendeins radar ! Any guesses as to when they will stock? My vote goes for September.
  3. Total deprivation ! Now spinning Cannonball Adderley 'Somethin' Else' (BN 47W63rd DG mono)
  4. That's the sort of nightmare that would have me waking up in a cold sweat !
  5. Earlier today: MJQ 'The Sheriff' (Japanese Victor). These Japanese pressings sound way better than MJQ Atlantic originals (at least in my experience).
  6. Lou Donaldson 'Alligator Boogaloo' (BN Liberty stereo)
  7. Never put the Mosaic CDs in the car either. LPs are VPI'd and then handled with great care. I've not quite got to the 'white glove' stage with the booklets but it's not far off.
  8. Hope it was a good one !
  9. Stanley Crouch Papa John Creech Donovan Leitch
  10. A ballerina popping out of the piano during the Russian 'turn':
  11. Texas C&W from Germany..
  12. A bunch of ageing baldies from Lithuania: didn't realise Bill Clinton was in their lineup.
  13. and the crap-rap from the UK :
  14. Here's Lordi, from Finland..
  15. It was the best comedy programme so far this year. The BBC1 coverage traditionally has a totally hilarious super-cynical commentary by Terry Wogan which points out the various voting cliques e.g. Former-USSR Block, Balkan, Viking, Iberian, Greek Islands etc. The whole thing ceased to be a real competition at least 10 years ago and is now a total joke. At least the Warhammer/AC/DC clones representing Finland did something half-way original (well - in Eurovision terms ) for once. And as for the Albanian 'suspenders' theme and the German cowboys.. The episode of Father Ted was not far at all from the truth. Who wants the expense of hosting this charade when you can let one of these quangos foot the bill. France and UK should always enter some crap so ensure it stays that way.
  16. J R Monterose 'The Message' (Jaro International stereo - heavy vinyl reissue, doesn't say but presumably by Fresh Sound?) Buddy Rich 'Buddy and Soul' (UK Liberty stereo)
  17. John - Was that the last Summer 1980 stint at Scotts with Marc Johnson and Joe LaBarbera? I caught 2 consecutive nights of that one. The early shows were packed out with the 'expense account' brigade and quite noisy but for the late shows there were no more than 12-15 congniscenti in the audience and he had everyone totally entranced. Unforgettable - and somehow (thank you Ronnie) I got a front row piano-side seat for the second evening.
  18. Up for this thread. Just listening to CDs 1 and 2 of 'The Complete Fantasy Recordings' box set. Superb stuff - the recordings for Fantasy seem to get lukewarm reviews from the likes of the Penguin Guide but for anyone on the fence with this set, I recommend it. The ideas are just flying off the fingers throughout. CD 9 also has a full edition of Marian McPartland's 'Piano Jazz' with Evans, looking forward to reaching that disk. Now need to get me 'The Last Waltz' and 'Secret Sessions' (Zweitausendeins....please... ).
  19. Sidney Bechet Complete Blue Note, CD#1
  20. No-one mentioned the collectable invoices yet?
  21. Big John Patton 'Oh Baby !' (BN NY USA stereo). On one of my regular Patton kicks at the moment ..
  22. Miles Davis 'Volume 2' (BN Lexington 10") Big John Patton 'Got A Good Thing Goin' (BN NY USA mono)
