    Ronnie Ross

Imposter ! The original Fontana has foldbacks on the sleeves so presumably they are replicating that. Is this taken from the stereo source tapes or is it a vinyl lift?
  2. Don't tell me you have an original copy of that Alas, no - just the facsimile reissue.
  3. It's just popped up on the 'Dime Store'
  4. He's one heck of a good trombone player - makes it look so effortless ! Saw him last year at Cheltenham as part of Enrico Rava's fine quintet.
  5. Summer has well and truly arrived in England. Warm and clear blue skies - without getting unbearable. Doesn't get any better than this.
  6. Hilarious ! Just been listening to him on the Cellar Door set but Miles must have had a cork handy to plug the outbursts.
  7. Jackie McLean 'Hipnosis' (King BN) Rene Utreger Trio (Versailles)
  8. Here's the King GXK Japanese LP issue, which I have recently got hold of. Sorry that the picture is somewhat miniscule !
  9. It's not often that I pre-order a Mosaic set but I did with this one (mine is about no. 50-ish). Have loved it ever since first listen and it fills in nicely when I can't be bothered with the hassle of getting the Pacific Jazz vinyls out. Saw Gerald live quite recently and he's still an absolute phenomenon !
  10. 'The Bill Le Sage - Ronnie Ross Quartet' (World Record Club, stereo)
  11. Jackie McLean 'McLean's Scene' (New Jazz DG mono)
  12. Gitte Haenning & Kenny Clarke/Francy Boland Big Band 'Gitte And The Band - My Kind of World' (Hor Zu) Charlie Rouse 'Bossa Nova Bacchanal' (BN NY USA mono)
  13. Lou Donaldson 'Gravy Train' (BN NY USA mono) JJ Johnson 'Volume 1' (BN Lexington mono DG)
  14. I can take a look at some 1974-76 back-issues of Jazz Journal International this weekend and scan in anything of interest, if that is any use to you? (I don't think their coverage of Nucleus was that prolific but you never know..)
  15. Joe Harriott 'Swings High' (Melodisc, stereo) Duke Pearson 'Wahoo !' (BN NY USA mono)
  16. Totally agree with you - in general I really like the BN monos (although the stereos are OK by the Liberty era), I like the Impulse stereos and apply some caution with Atlantic stereos.
  17. Sadly, I've read that he died back in 1997 in his home town of Pittsburgh. Fine guitarist.
  18. Anyone mentioned Kenny Burrell 'Midnight Blue' yet?
  19. Thelonious Monk Vogue/Black Lion CD1
  20. Barbara Thompson's Paraphernalia 'Live' (UK MCA 2LP set)
  21. Thanks - still too expensive for cheapskates like me !
  22. I used to use an Ortofon VMS20EMk2 with my old direct-drive Dual many years ago. Don't know if this cartridge is still available - it was quite a good match for the deck.
  23. Don't know abought bought-in services but it's not too difficult to do yourself, if you have a deck and the appropriate interconnects. Just hook up an Soundblaster card to the 'line in' and use Soundblaster's software. I use an external Soundblaster card with temporary cables between computer room and lounge to hook the system up. Results are quite good !
  24. Miles Davis art exhibition in London, about 2 years ago.
