  1. I know, that's what I am looking for. I haven't found any yet. Try Duke Ellington (but I must warn you that you may become an addict). I've heard that Duke has several releases available.
  2. Columbia is doing a "50th Anniversary of Miles's Signing" PR campaign, so I imagine they have incentive to get the set out this year. (Wouldn't be surprised if the date slips a bit, though.) I'm looking forward to finally hearing this set.
  3. WHAT??? Wasn't Benny Golson the best because you got to sit next to ME??? Err, I don't want to cause you any pain, but...
  4. Another PKD movie? Too bad he didn't live another 20 years....
  5. I was there too & enjoyed the show. I was glad to hear the other pair of musicians come out. My ears needed something different by that time. Hey Chalupa -- are you going to see the Arkestra show at the Sedgwick next month (4/16)? They'll be doing all or mostly arrangements of "stomps," including ones by Fletcher Henderson. (Maybe that'll motivate me to read more of the new Fletcher Henderson bio, which is pretty good so far.) We seem to keep ending up at the same shows. Have we met?
  6. AEoC at Haverford.
  7. I've been working since 4am after four hours of sleep.

    Sonny Stitt

He set the way-back machine on reverse.
  9. LCJO has that rare ability to make interesting music sound boring.
  10. First CD issue coming on May 10th: Modern Jazz Quartet - Sheriff (Wounded Bird) May 10 — 1964 Atlantic Records release
  11. This sentence no verb.
  12. One of my favorite albums too! The reissue of the album (with the original non-Cat-ner cover ), is due out on April 12th.
  13. I'd just like to borrow it for the weekend. I'll definitely return the photos on Monday.
  14. Are there release dates listed for these?
  15. I haven't heard these either, but I think that Minasi was pretty unhappy about the production. Probably one of the reasons he didn't record anything else for many years.
  16. Please don't take offense but "nice" doesn't cut it. It's on the same wavelength as saying something is "pleasant". With so much music and such a finite amount of time, I won't buy unless I suspect the CD is really worth having. That's my understated way of saying (assuming you like Eric Alexander) that the CD is worth having. (It's hard for me to be too verbose on four hours sleep.)
  17. I just missed you -- I was at the early show. Nice show. Great to hear Rivers!
  18. I was seriously "shop challenged " as well.. In the eighth grade , I worked a WHOLE F@%^%$^!ING YEAR on a pair of bookends.. ..and they never DID meet at a ninety degree angle! I think I made the same pair of bookends!
  19. It's nice.
  20. I hope I'm still doing that well at their age! (84 and 86 years old, respectively.)
  21. I hope to make his hometown gig: Henry Grimes/Marshall Allen duo — Slought Foundation, 4017 Walnut Street, Philadelphia Mar 18 (Fri) — 8-10 pm — $15 ($12 student)

    Carla Bley

The "Night-Glo" period is not my favorite. (Maybe I'll pull it out again.) But I really think she's doing some very good writing these days -- 4X4 and Looking For America are both well worth a listen.
