Anyone have the full list of who's on the SNL music DVDs? My interest in this could vary from very low to fairly high depending who they've picked...

Sure are a lot of musicians on this album...I bet there was just a bit more studio time used than the average Alfred Lion session. I still want to hear it, though.

441 Records just started issuing CDs this month. They're issuing domestic versions of sessions that were recorded at Avatar Studios in NYC for Japanese labels. (441 is the address of the studio.) Sound is excellent. Jim Anderson is one of the engineers there. My site lists release from 441 starting at Aug 5 and continuing through Oct.

Wow! I was a verbally precocious kid, but nothing like that! Well, I don't think she knows what it means (hell, barely do!), but I think she somehow guessed that it formed a word.

I interviewed Kuhn about twenty years ago and he didn't seem at all bitter about the Coltrane thing. It sounded like he know it wasn't going to be long term. I'd like to see those ECMs on CD, too. Luckilly, I have them on vinyl. Unluckilly, turntable needs a new cartridge.

I drove up from Philly for this and got more than I expected, i.e. the blackout! I was in Downtown Music Gallery when the lights went out at 4:10 pm. It took a while to realize this wasn't just a neighborhood thing. They decided to go ahead with the gig anyway as an acoustic show. The guitarist had a lute with him. They tried to find an acoustic bass for Hugh, but they couldn't locate one. Thirty minutes into the show, someone lent him a Martin acoustic guitar and he joined the show. The music was good, if not what I was expecting, the atmosphere was odd -- the show was illuminated by an emergency light and a couple flashlights. It was one of the strangest days in my life and I'm not sure that I've recovered yet. Did get to chat a bit with Elton and Hugh in DMG before the gig...

The Water label seems to part of the Runt label from San Francisco. They do have a web site (buyrunt.com), but it hasn't been updated recently.

Septa was stupid enough to arrest him again a year later. I went to his criminal hearing. The judge was rather amusing before he threw out the case.

I think "It's Not Up to Us" is from 1966. Byard also plays some very nice flute on several tracks. I believe he goes to France about once or twice a year.

Here's a case where 45 minutes seems too long. It's somewhat enjoyable, but wears thin after about thirty.
