  6. I have a friend who had to use Airborne Express to deliver work to her employer. They screwed up so consistently that she called them "Airborne Distress."
  7. Frank Wess will be 82 on Jan 4th! I'm amazed at how many recordings he's turned up on in the last year...

I thought Phantoms was pretty good. Here's a review.
  9. "Every day is a magical circus."
  10. It's available now from the label site (artofliferecords.com) and will be out to retail on 11/18. It certainly doesn't sound like a long-lost recording by The Band, but there's some very skillful jazz guitar playing.
  11. I'm a Steve Swallow fan and really enjoyed Scofield's old Enja recordings with Swallow and Nussbaum. Any idea what label the new trio recording will be on?
  12. Thelonious Monk - Monk in Paris: Live at the Olympia - w/ bonus DVD (Thelonious/Hyena) Sept 23 Thelonious Monk (piano); Charlie Rouse (saxophone); Larry Gales (bass); Ben Riley (drums). Epistrophy The DVD tracks were recorded in Oslo, Norway in 1966: "Lulu's Back In Town," "Blue Monk" and "Round Midnight."
  13. Repeat of 1997 NPR Fresh Air interview.
  14. I've heard the the three Columbia Ellington reissues have been pushed back until 2004. But I have advances. They sound great. BHAHAHA. (Sorry, I couldn't help it.)
  15. Upcoming Mark Shim appearance: Carmen Lundy - Something to Believe In (Justin Time) Oct 21 -- with pianist Anthony Wonsey, bassist Curtis Lundy, and drummer Victor Lewis plus guests, percussionist Mayra Casales, saxophonist Mark Shim and violinist Regina Carter
  16. Good album.
  17. Do you know if the reissues will include "Playground," with Sheila Jordan? Yes, I've heard that the CD reissues will include "Playground" as well as "Trance" and "Ecstasy."
  18. Ron Blake - Lest We Forget (Mack Avenue) — with Blake (saxophone); Rashawn Ross (trumpet); Joey DeFrancesco (organ); David Gilmore (guitar): Christian McBride (bass); Greg Hutchinson (drums)
  19. I think they just don't have room for everything. They also alternate some of the center section material. Steve Kuhn has a new one (with strings) coming at on ECM early next year. (And ECM will be reissuing several of his earlier titles that haven't made it to CD yet.) Sunnyside has just issued Oceans in the Sky in the U.S. It's a nice trio date with Miroslav Vitous and Aldo Romano that was originally issued by Owl around 1989. And speaking of the infrequently recording bassist Vitous, he has his own ECM CD coming out on 9/30. Called Universal Syncopations, it was recorded with John McLaughlin, Jan Garbarek, Chick Corea and Jack DeJohnette. I'm looking forward to hearing this one.
  20. Oh, hits a homer. I thought you meant "hits the Homer." Never mind.
