  9. Fantastic, Johnny--now that I'm finally back (delayed, but back) I'm all over April 12 - Philadelphia PA, Tritone I know, I know, Ron, I owe you a call...
  10. Funniest thing I've seen in a while!
  11. Stan the Man - Don't Mess with Mr. T It's a little "smoothed out" and Stanley T breaks in to talk about the song a bit, but still...
  12. Is anyone going to the Curtis Fuller 75th Birthday celebration at Iridium in NYC tonight (or over the weekend)? I'm going to be hitting up the 10:30 show tonight--Curtis with Rene McLean, Eddie Henderson, Wallace Roney, and Red Halloway. Saw Stefon Harris and Blackout at "Dizzy's Club Coca Cola" on Monday. Great show--terrific improvisations. Might check out Don Byron with Uri Caine tomorrow night at the Vanguard.
  13. Delighted you made it safe and sound, Mark. Good luck out there. Let me know if you need any contacts in Portland, if they would help.
  14. Shawn--happy to help you vet lawyers for your particular situation. If you want to shoot me a pm with a general description, I know some folks in VA and might be able to steer you in the right direction. Peter
  15. Good, great, terrific luck my friend. Just having wrapped my cross-country drive, I'm excited for you. You should be moving to Philadelphia ( ), but I wish you the best. Jump back online as soon as you can and want to.
  16. Checking in from the shittiest hotel (emphasis on the "ho") I've ever stayed in--the Comfort Inn in beautiful suburban Toledo, Ohio. Four days into the trip east--and having a hell of a time finding labrador-friendly accomodations! Oh well. I'm only here for eight hours' sleep en route to New York tomorrow. Missed the pileup in Wisconsin by minutes because I pulled off the highway to get a bite to eat. Damn! Anyway--yes, I do believe I'll be there! Can't wait to meet you guys!
  17. "Spicy Asian Salmon Lasagne" Definitely not in any cookbook I've ever read!
  18. Wow...Birdland! It used to be downtown right by the library, and then moved over to Hawthorne. It's gone now, RIP, but probably 90% of my collection in the first two or three years I started collecting used vinyl came from there. The owner was always going to Chicago and bringing sick finds back--prices were good, too. I grew up in Portland--nice to see all the connections to that city here. Jlarsen, are you from there as well?
  19. All-- As I think about my trip to Philly, it occurs to me that I'd like to be able to use my Mac (OS X) laptop as a GPS/direction finding machine. Does anyone have a recommendation for a software/hardware package that consists of a GPS "receiver" that plugs into a USB port with software that shows where I am/gives me directions on where to do? I feel like there was discussion about this some time ago, but I can't search on GPS because it's only three letters. Thanks for any leads/recommendations. Peter
  20. PM sent on Miles Davis - Ascenseur Pour l'Echafaud Larry Young - Of Love and Peace Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus John Coltrane - Coltrane Plays the Blues [bonus Tracks] $8 Miles Davis - The Complete In a Silent Way (3 CD's) Thanks!
  21. As I recall, some of the residents in the apartments bordering Rittenhouse Square starting making a stink about the music (disturbed their afternoon senior-special naps?), and leaned on the cops to try to "shut it down" under the guise of enforcing an anti-loitering ordinance. Let the music play. Man, there was nothing like strolling through the square while listening to the cacophony of students at Curtis practicing through open windows--no doubt the kind of thing that inspired Ives! Jeez, what's up with that?
  22. I would also be willing to pay up to $50, but like Kevin said, to support the band--no interest in spending that kind of bread for other releases.
  23. I got into a verbal altercation once in Rittenhouse Square (Philadelphia) with a cop who was trying to make a string quartet (kids from the Curtis Institute, a conservatory across the street) disband. These kids were great, and had (understandably) drawn a crowd on a sunny spring Saturday morning. Cop walked through the crowd in the middle of these kids' playing and told them to pack up and leave. Nobody stepped up to the plate, so I challenged the cop--asked him "on what basis?" He couldn't answer the question, but the kids complied, packed up, and left, saying "don't worry about it--we'll just come back in an hour when he's off his shift". I was really pissed--and in retrospect, annoyed with myself that I didn't take it further. Really glad to see the result here.
  24. Don't know about festivals in Italy, but I'm sure you know the Philadelphia Italian Market festival is in Mid-May! Regardless, I hope you have a Philadelphia hit on the books...would love to see you guys there.
