  1. I disagree about the comments about the mix. I've always found Dial to be rather harsh.
  2. Thanks to the oldies sale........Jimmy Forrest. I've heard of him but never heard him. Sit Down and Relax With..........bluesy, soulful, just beautiful tenor.
  3. Personally I hope they start to run out soon so I'm forced to stop buying. Now I realize I should have ordered a couple of those Helen Humes.
  4. I'm not crazy about the food but I do like the rocking chairs.

I am very, very sad to hear this.
  6. Pretty good service from oldies right now. Received 15 out of 16. Don Friedman's Metamorphosis was cut. Edited to say that I can't believe I put this in the wrong thread. Should be in the "Concord Blowout" thread.
  7. Under "your account" on Secondspin they list the dollar value available for credit for your "collection" (what you bought from them). Interplay, with a sales price of $20.99, shows a credit value of $16.25. Not bad. On the other hand the Debut Records Story, selling for $8.97, has a credit value of 5 cents!! I sure hope it's in decent condition when it arrives.
  8. She'll be in Cleveland on September 11 at the Fairmount Presbyterian Church (solo on the Schantz Pipe Organ) and then a trio at the Bop Stop on September 12.
  9. As my uncle said when he turned 80, "Now that I'm 80 I've earned the right to be disagreeable."
  10. I'm way too easy. I said I wouldn't order from oldies again. They credit my account for an incorrect shipping charge for a partial shipment. They offer 5% off one order if you have their newsletter e-mailed to you. I had fun doing searches here with great recommendations for soon to be deleted items. I ordered 16 more from the Fantasy sale.
  11. He was known for being open to all eras and varieties of music.
  12. Used this week's "free shipping" promotion to order the $8.97 Debut Records Story set.
  13. I also just came across this and forgive the chewy imitation but.......wait wait wait wait .....I never knew Johnny Winter played at Woodstock. Maybe i forgot i knew it but i think i never knew it. I've got to hear those recordings.
  14. Possibly an album of ballads by Ben Webster or Gene Ammons (Gentle Jug).
  15. 3 part tune called Moments from the cd "Chico "(india navigation). Superb Cecil McBee with Chico Freeman
  16. Thanks to bebop (and then to mellow for the heads up on the $8 price decrease) the Interplay set arrived today. I ordered it on 8/12 and it shipped 8/13. It was plastic wrapped with two "used" stickers on the outside of the box with only a scratch out of the bar code. At first glance the cds and the booklet appear to be brand new. Because the long box is shorter than the Sony long boxes, cd #1 and #2 overlap as do cd #4 and #5. The booklet looks great with original album covers included.
  17. I, for one, never hid it. Emergency!
  18. Got my Stitt box today too. Started to play disc 1 and found that my 15 year old cd player isn't working. Now I'm doing some searches here for cd/sacd players. I'll try to change my attitude but it sure has been nice not having to research, audition, compare equipment, etc. Hopefully audio has improved since I last purchased and I can decide quickly.
  19. Aren't the tracks on Kaleidoscope on Stitt's Bits as well? Plus you get the Bud Powell cuts, etc all for $4.98.
  20. Another update.......I called oldies customer service about the Stitt's Bits since it is 30 days past my original order and I didn't want them to cancel the backorder. They told me it shipped yesterday. I asked for the amount charged to confirm $4.98 that should be charged. They told me the amount charged was $8.93. When I told them they shouldn't charge shipping twice since I only placed one order, they agreed and said the $3.95 would be credited back to my card. FYI
  21. I ordered 3 items (Swingin with Pee Wee, Life of a Song SACD and Stitt's Bits) on July 4th. I finally called for an update last Friday about 1:00 pm. Receive an e-mail on Friday at 6:00 pm that my order shipped. Coincidence? Today 2 out of 3 items arrived. No Stitt's Bits. Both cds I received had the "cut out" spine cuts that Mike describes. I find this annoying. The plastic pieces get into the jewel case. I ordered 22 during the Concord sale. All arrived in perfect condition. I'm not ordering from oldies again.
  22. Must have been the mid 90's when I found the Cecil Taylor/Beull Neidlinger Mosaic brand new at Sound Exchange for $40. I'm glad Vinyl Fever and SE are still in business.
  23. A wonderful neighbor of ours is scheduled to have his stomach removed after a malignant growth was found. That, alone, is life changing and frightening enough. This morning his wife told me they also found a mass on his lung that will be biopsied. For comfort or distraction or both I listened to "My Favorite Things" and "Impressions" from Newport '63. For me, in this circumstance, Coltrane's music expresses the frustration, anger, helplessness and prayer I'm feeling. I listened to a lot of Coltrane's music when my father was very ill last year.
  24. Exact same wording on my order too.
  25. I ordered only a few items on the oldies.com promotion. Mainly because I had to buy 4 new tires but also because I liked the "stock up" incentives on the original Concord blow out (30+ cds = $2.98/cd) and the recent Concord (buy 10 get 1 free plus that 20% discount code). So at oldies I bought the Stitt box, Swingin with Pee Wee (this is the one I really want) and Geri Allen's Life of a Song SACD.
