The love and relationship you shared with your father is very touching.........and I am deeply saddened for your loss. He sounds like a wonderful man. My father died this past February. Now I can't seem to type through the tears....I'm so very sorry.

I can't recall who said they might upgrade to the RVG of SS. My advice is don't. I regret replacing my '87 or '88 CD with the RVG which compresses all the dynamics of the music away. One of the worst of the RVGs IMO.

fucking piece of shit>>>dipshit fucking asswipe>>>douchebag piece of contemptible shit = dipshit/douchebag

Thanks Mo. I may need to upgrade my Alfred E. to that one!

Great judgement on the part of the Spears family to request help from a tv star who is also tabloid fodder himself and not expect that increased media coverage will be the result of his "support".

I think the phrase "bury me" is very telling as to what's going on here. As opposed to a court of law verdict, we're entitled to opinions based on Clemens words. My opinion all along has been that Clemens' outrage comes from a "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" mentality. Steroids isn't the issue to him. After all, if many players do steroids how can it be cheating. Isn't sacrificing one's body for the team considered honorable? I think Clemens knows his trainer didn't lie. The sin, in Clemens mind, is betraying baseball and, even worse, a buddy. Loyalty has much higher value in many organizations than honesty does.

This thread brings back a nice memory of stopping by their South Florida home back in 1999 to buy some cds. They both were very gracious. I also enjoyed seeing and hearing about Meredith's paintings which, at the time, were on display throughout their house and playing with their dog (Clifford Brown!). The invitation came when Eddie and Meredith were playing at a Whole Foods type of grocery store. I asked to buy a cd that they didn't have with them. They told me to call them for a convenient time to stop by. Also a priceless memory was seeing Eddie and Flip Philips play at a long defunct South Florida jazz club (Penguin's??......in the 80's.....time passes way too quickly). Flip was quite fragile.....had difficulty climbing up on the bandstand....but when he started playing his posture became erect and he seemed to be 20 years younger. It was my mom's birthday and, during a break, Eddie came over to wish her a happy birthday. Gracious to be sure!

Very upset to hear this news. Earlier this year I jumped at the chance to drive Frank from Toledo, Oh (he had a gig in downtown Toledo) to Cleveland where he played a brunch concert as part of the Tri C Jazz Fest. One of life's great experiences to spend a couple of hours with him hearing about his life and music. He was a gentle man and a gentleman.

Of course if you hit .100 in the majors, you better be a really good pitcher.

I think that Joseph Jarman post was in the "Artists - CD ONLY!!" thread.

Same here Aggie. BTW I should have thanked you before for sharing the promo code. How did you find out about it? I was able to pick up some Mercury Living Presence hybrids I was considering before. Two cd's are on backorder (Parray Symphonie Fantastique and Patricia Barber's Fortnight in France).

what are you drinking right now?

psyllium seed husk and water. I hate the stuff every night, but it sure does the body good. -
Thanks SS. But how do you get the 30% coupons? I'm a Borders rewards member and they've been e-mailing the 20% coupon each week (except for 25% over Labor day).

Pithy communication can be effective......but only if the words chosen can be clearly understood. If a word like "offend" can possibly be interpreted in different ways then the best way to react to the reader is to be patronizing.

In an interview before a concert here in Cleveland, Randy Weston said that, when he first heard Monk play, he felt he could play piano better. Soon after he understood how Monk was turning a European harmonic instrument into an ancient percussive rhythmic instrument.

I saw that guy play some time ago. He played very well too - for his age.

I'd love to hear some other dinner music suggestions. During our Easter get together I played 2 Cd's from the Johnny Smith Mosaic followed by some Red Garland. Perfect accompaniment.

Why isn't Chris participating anymore? When I joined the board a few years back he quickly welcomed me here. I haven't been a regular contributor at all (a regular reader though)......but I always appreciated his insights.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
TedR replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
The James Carter Organ trio (Gerard Gibbs, B-3, Leanard King, drums) last night in Cleveland. Jaw dropping! And this group had so much infectious fun playing together. Charlie Parker died 52 years ago today. James Carter ended his set......then said he'd be remiss if he didn't pay tribute to Bird. His intensity after already playing 2 1/2 hours was something to behold. -
I received e-mail confirmation that my third order was shipping. Placed on 8/12....confirmation 9/12. Two were listed as cancelled this time: Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane and Ken McIntyre's Stone Blues. A number of others that someone said were cancelled, like Honi Gordon and two from Jon Eardley, will ship.

You can get the U.S. version for $5.99 at yourmusic.com.

I didn't have my reading glasses on when I typed my last post.......I just saw my typo......i meant to say T.D.'s previous post....not precious post

Ron, I placed this particular order on 7/25. I called Concord because on a precious post by T.D. his order, which was placed on 7/28 and had a higher order #, shipped before mine. BTW the person that answered my call was Jackson. Very helpful!
-
If in doubt, a phone call is recommended. I called today. Spoke to a very helpful guy. Received my shipping confirmation tonight. Out of 30 CDs, 6 were cancelled........Eric Dolphy Outward Bound (at the Five Spot K-2 is shipping!); Elmo Hope Hope Meets Foster; Monk Misterioso K-2;; Monk Plays Ellington K-2; Oliver Nelson Screamin' the Blues; and Rollins Worktime K-2 (very disappointed!!). I hope my phone call didn't rush them too much today. BTW the total dollar amount wasn't on this confirmation as on my first shipment. I trust they deduct for those that didn't ship.

My second order (#6154) placed 7/25..........no confirmation yet. T.D.'s order 6219 placed 7/28 ships before order 6154 placed 7/25?????????
