  1. Thanks to everyone for your advice. I'll definitely check with some realtors, Kevin. Great idea! In the end I'll just have to gamble that I get a decent crew and avoid the scammers. Scottb's story on the subcontractors makes me very nervous. Maybe the insurance they offer will give me peace of mind (unless they dispute claims with impossible requests for proof). I won't be able to get everything I want to in the car......but the Mosaics and financial documents will be first in the trunk. It'll be two long nights on the road.......I'm sure I'll keep waking up to check that no one's breaking into my packed car. I'm not looking forward to this. Connoisseur......I'll be moving to a suburb west of Cleveland near where I grew up. I'll be marrying a wonderful woman who I've known since high school.......and will be near my parents who will need more help as they get older.
  2. Before this thread ends.........the Vikings traded Moss?! Salary cap or discontented player issue? Who did they trade him to?
  3. I'll be moving from Florida to Ohio in a couple months. Have been interviewing movers, getting estimates, etc. How do the larger companies that use local "agents" (United, Allied, etc) compare to smaller "company owned" operations? Is their additional cost for insurance necessary? Any experiences or advice would be helpful, especially as to how your possessions were treated. Thanks in advance.
  4. This thread is another great example of how invaluable this board is. I have yet to hear Mr. Freeman.....but, when I do, I'll be better for it.
  5. If Larry and Chuck both rave about this I have to get it. No brainer! I have the 70's BN lp twofer reissue and the live Five Spot recording has always been one of my favorite live recordings, excellently recorded as well.
  6. It is impossible to be "Master of your Domain" with prices like these on the Farlow set. I want to see more opportunities like it....I want to be notified if there are more deals........but, on the other hand, I hope there won't be. I'm trying to buy a damn house!
  7. Like RonS, I'm interested why all this low price distribution on the Farlow set. Could a price war break out soon? Jazzydaddy........after enjoying the Farlow set I had my eye on the Johnny Smith set. What is the "filler" you mention?
  8. Dexter Gordon Manhattan Symphonie
  9. Looks like Fantasy (Concord?) wants to tap this market too. Just added to yourmusic.com were Best Of's for Milt Jackson, Eric Dolphy, Sonny Rollins, Kenny Burrell, Red Garland Quintet, Miles Davis, etc. (2004 releases)
  10. I will miss the record store search..........the early days for me going to college campus shops with that scent of incense, walls covered in posters .......later on hunting and haunting the record/cd stores in each town I'd travel to on business.........finding something new to hear for the very first time. That was my escape, my relaxation. This board is a great excape........there's much to learn from everyone here.....but I find it difficult to relax sitting close to a bright monitor for a few hours visiting various websites.
  11. I have my answer!! I was going to set up my first thread requesting cd ideas for my fiance's birthday. She's "somewhat" of a jazz fan if you know what I mean. Norah.....(staring me right in the face).........thanks Chuck!

Jim, This is the perfect time to ask what your son thinks of your performances? In one of your previous posts I found it very interesting how he'd share music with you that he'd been listening to..... and how happy you were when you liked it too. Very cool! Great father/son dynamics.

I just think...........we should discuss narcissism.........in the jazz community of course........any examples come to mind??

"We both know you can raise your argumentation to a higher level. How 'bout it?" That must be testosterone talking.
  17. I just received the Tal Farlow box today. I never ordered through Amazon so I selected MusicMedia since they had a slightly higher customer service ranking then caiman. And I didn't regret it. Last week when I noticed their Amazon site no longer had the Farlow (after I ordered) I e-mailed MusicMedia. They answered two hours later saying the item would be back in stock and shipping on Tuesday. They confirmed via e-mail when it shipped and it arrived just when they said. Excellent customer service...excellent communications...and they took the set off their list on Amazon when they were temporarily out. Thanks again RonS for the heads up to this import on Amazon at a great price. Only minor quibble.....those slim line 2 cd cases sure hold those cd's tight. If I ever start getting arthritis I'll have to repackage 'em in regular jewel cases. (Since I live in Florida where MM ships from, it arrived the very next day.)

I'm bothered by the tag of "another jazz/woman beater". Domestic violence is a personal flaw unrelated to profession. The connection of woman beater to jazz musician seems unfair. What were Max's issues? In Miles autobio he related Max's temper to drugs: "That wasn't the real Max Roach screaming in the club at me...........Drugs was talking for Max". Upsetting because Max is one of my musical heroes too.
  19. Allen, I found the same thing you're selling at MusicBoleh.com for $11.03. I'm taking my business there.
  20. I'll feel a little better about this company when RonS reports back if his Tal Farlow that caiman says shipped on 2/7 has arrived.
  21. Just noticed that Geoff is 21 today.
  22. "I would hope so; she is a pro after all." Well, so are Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, et al.
  23. Ahem..........I watched Desparate Housewives too......but with PIP I saw my personal highlights of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You", some great moves by Usher, and Bonnie Raitt who could teach a lot of "Idols" about singing.
  24. Rooster, You mention you hold up every other shelf with two jewel cases one on top of the other. Do you tape them together? I'd worry that they wouldn't hold the weight of the shelf with cd's and could collapse with the slightest contact with the bookcase.
  25. AND TO THINK THE BEATLES AND THE BEACH BOYS WERE AT THE SHRINE AUDITORIUM THAT NIGHT.......
