  1. Unbelievable! Are we sure he's not a writer for The Onion?
  2. part 2 of this evil plan: Bill O'Reilly's book on Charlie Parker will be out in January.
  3. This story was on the NBC news last night. I am happy that the two can stay together after having such a strong bond. Very touching. Thanks for posting this.
  4. Remember buying that one as a cut-out from a deletions rack and it got spun non-stop for weeks on end. Amazing squared ! Just dug that out. The excellent liner notes are by John Litweiler.
  5. The Bobby Hackett Mosaic........and I mean the first two CDs, the "easy listening" sides. Many of those cuts I remember hearing through my parents console tuned to their favorite radio station in the early-mid sixties and later. Many warm memories when I listen to this.
  6. James Taylor At Christmas. A holiday favorite of my wife and mine.
  7. Sorry. Apology accepted. :-)
  8. Okay, your post made me feel guilty enough to get going already! :-)
  9. I'm supposed to be at my mother's house to do laundry and grocery shop among other chores. But it's cold out and with no appointments today I'm slow to get moving and, instead, listening to Miles Davis Quintet, Live at Monterey. I'll head out when it's over.
  10. No gifts.........puhlease! (from last night's Modern Family)
  11. A stairmaster........perfect for winter listening.......this may be too much to resist. :-)
  12. When I saw the subject line, I thought there would be posts on a favorite recording or concert appearance. Unfortunately not. Damn. Edited to say, at the time I posted this, the subject headline was simply "Jim Hall".
  13. Art Tatum, Complete Pablo Solo Masterpieces, disc 1.
  14. Yes, excellent photos. I need to listen to those sessions again.
  15. Flute Fever arrived today. Did you get this from ImportCDs because it's showing with release date of 10 December on their website. I only ask because I have a copy on order from them and have heard nothing so far. Yes, it was part of an Importcds order. No surprise that FF didn't ship with the instock items, but I was surprised that it shipped (and arrived) before the listed availability date.
  16. Flute Fever arrived today.
  17. I should say that I was trying to joke based on the discussion of reference recordings in the classical forum. I post using my iPad and it doesn't seem to have access to the emoticons, so I used a :-) instead. But I do appreciate the definition, MG, since I used to think it strictly had to do with "audiophile" sound.
  18. What the hell does "reference" mean anyway? :-)
  19. I just read through the page 11 posts for the first time. I'm glad the moderators found a "third choice".
  20. Excellent prediction SS. Not the final score but they definitely found a way to lose........again. Edited to say I'm a long time Browns fan.
  21. I added this as a pre order to an Importcds order placed during the 10% promo. The others arrived already and, just today, I received an e-mail from Importcds that Flute Fever just shipped.
  22. As far as warm singers, don't forget Shirley Horn.
  23. He was doing arrangements and bandleading for Julie London (I think), (definitely) Sam Cooke and Ray Charles and others. I think he did a hell of a lot of music that isn't regarded as jazz. MG I see. That's interesting and explains a lot. Now that you mention it, I do recall his working with Ray Charles. Did not know about Sam Cooke.
  24. Seven homes?! That's similar to the number of homes owned by the highest paid actors and pop stars. Compared to them Gerald Wilson is certainly an obscure figure and I doubt he had any albums that went "multi platinum". His wealth creation had to involve something other than just his music.
  25. Finally couldn't resist buying the Rubinstein Complete Albums Box and Haydn Complete Symphonies with the Importcds 10% off sale. Then had to add Lester Bowie All The Numbers (nessa) and Flute Fever (international phonograph as a pre order) to the order. When I write "couldn't resist" and "had to" about spending money, that's a clue I need to be careful. :-)
